Setup using VSP problem

Post by PA3DJY »

Hello friends.
I have a problem with setup Log4OM, Wsjt-x and JTAlert. Right now i am running a configuration with Wsjt-x, JT-Alert and DXkeeper.
I use DXkeeper only to log QSO's and not to control my TS-590SG. Because i have no serial ports i use virtual USB to UART software with hardware.
With this combination i can control the rig via WSJT-X (via COM3) and automatically log a QSO when finished.

I read great reviews about Log4OM and i recently have dowloaded and setup Log4OM (most of it working properly), thereby i have read the chapter "Virtual Serial Ports explained". Did follow the instructions (downloaded eterlogic) en set up the VSP program as described (with COM 3 as port between rig and computer) and installed the latest OmniRig and ini files. After starting up wsjt-x i received a message about stacks and all stops.
My guess is that the virtual USB to UART collides with the VSP splitter. I tried different setups, but nothing helps.
My question: Is it possible to add the VSP splitter after the vitrual USB to UART or do i have to remove the virtual USB to UART and install the VSP splitter instead? In short, what is the best way to configure this?

Best regards,
Gerrit

If you are wishing to run Log4OM with JTAlert and WSJT-X you do not require a VSP

Use Omnirig with Log4OM to control the radio

In WSJT-X settings/radio select Omnirig

In JTAlert Settings/Manage settings/Logging select LOG4OM and set the parameters as below

Check Enable Log4OM logging box
Log4OM UDP server = 127.0.0.1
UDP Port = 2236
Check Use SQLite file log button
Enter the path to your Log4OM SQLite file in the SQLite Log field
Click OK

Hi Gerrit have checked that out a few minutes ago.

In Radio configuration of WSJT-X i have set to Radio Omnirig1 and all is
working fine here. Now i can start Log4OM first followed by WSJT-X and
JTAlert and WSJT-X has CAT control too ...

By the way ... Thank´s Terry for that tip. ;)

Normally i have had started WSJT-X first so that it have had the control
of the radio CAT and L4O don´t has but eyery time when WSJT-X crashes
i have had to close L4O too that it lost CAT connection. Your way works
even better ..

B.t.w ... also tested now with JTDX (latest step) and the same settings,
all is working fine too ...
73´s .. Juergen ... ALT-512 SDR (10W) , 50 m random wire at SG-211 autotuner, 2 x Xiegu G90 (20W HF TRX) one as portable Radio. Also TS-790E (40 W) for VHF/UHF with X-50 vertical and Duoband 4-Element LPDA.

Hello Terry,

I have tested the complete setting and all works fine except the logging part.
Made all the settings you adivised, can use radio via CAT, see that Log4OM shows QRG readout, see that JTAlert shows Log4OM in title bar etc.
The only problem is that i get a JTAlert error, at end of QSO (after 73's) it takes some while and than an error occurs.
The only thing i can think of is a timing problem ???
I have submitted the screenshots from different settings. I see only 3 attachments at the time so i made a second post with rest.

P.s Thanks to Juergen for thinking with us, maybe he sees any errors in my settings.

Hello Gerrit,

i see that UDP Service in Inbound setting of the communicator is disablet.
Stop the communicator and check the Box "UDP connection" then restart
the communicator and try logging again ...
