Station Configuration Crashing when adding new hardware

Post by G5ART »

Hi.

So Log4om V2.11.0.0 has been working perfectly, today however I have tried to add a new radio and new antenna to my station config.
I open the station config window, select the default radio, click the antenna button. and the program locks up.
no error messages.
I can add / delete a band to an existing antenna on the default radio no problem.
I can also change other program settings without issue.

I have tried downloading and re-installing again, but still the same.
Have also tried turning off antivirus and firewall, just in-case. but still no difference

I am running in Admin mode.

System spec:-

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz. 32Gb Ram
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
OS build 19042.804
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

from the Selfcare menu:-

You're running Log4OM V2 version: 2.11.0.0
Application is running in INSTALLED mode
You're running Log4OM with ADMIN privileges
Your program settings are OK. User is initialized
DATABASE INFO
Log4OM is currently CONNECTED to a valid database

HI Terry,

literally exactly as it says in my original post!
I start Log4om.
go to program settings
Station Configuration.
Select my default radio (only radio in the list) so its highlighted.
Click the antenna button to add new antenna and the program locks up.

I can add a band to an existing antenna.
I cant add a new radio, program locks up.

The only thing I haven't tried is a full un-install, wasn't sure if the uninstall removes all program preferences? to save having to go through the full set up again

Alan,

FWIW ... I just tested the routine you have described and I did not get a system lockup. Using same version of Log4OM V2.

I added a test antenna, added a band or two and then deleted same.

Have you taken a look at the log file and scanned to see if you are having any error messages at the time of the lockup?

Go to: Help / Open Log File and scan that log (if Log4OM V2 is running) or open the log file and view in a text editor.

HI Nolan,

So I couldn't see anything untoward in the log, however I realised that if I hit Escape, I go back into the program. so It looks like the Add antenna and Add Radio entry boxes are opening but they are not visible on any of my screens! but they are working because I can type blind and hit return and the item is added to the Station config.

OK So it seems that it is an issue with Log4om and multi screen set up.
I am running two additional screens from the Nvidia GFX card in this machine.
If I move the Program settings window back to my Laptop screen (designated as Master) then the station config entry works and I can see the Add Antenna / Add Radio entry boxes.
As soon as I move the Settings window across to any of the external monitors. then the entry box doesn't display.

Also a test if I turn off the laptop display and only use the external monitors everything also works as it should.

So I have a work around. Happy to share more info with regards to hardware etc if you want it, but just wondering how many OPs out there will be running on a laptop with a 4k display, Nvidia GFx card and 4k external displays!! probably get flamed for that comment lol!!!

Currently running V461.40 Nvidia Driver

I am running two 4K screens and a normal HMDI (3 monitors) and can't replicate your issue

Have you checked that the input windows are not hidden behind the main UI

HI Terry,

Yes I have checked and their not hidden.
My laptop screen is a 4k OLED touch screen.
Believe me, working in the Live video / motion graphics world for 30+ years dealing with the likes of Adobe. you soon develop a list of things to try when software starts acting up, lol.

My only other thought after discovering that switching either the laptop screen off or the monitors, solves the issue, is pointing to an interaction between the on-board intel GFX processor and the Nvidia card. I'd have to double check but I 'm pretty sure the the laptop screen is driven by the Intel chipset.

There is a new Nvidia driver that has dropped in the last few days, I'll give that go and see what happens.

I recall similar issues when we were developing the Matrox real time video editing, like real time rendering caused by driver conflicts between out Matrox cards and the built in pc card so it's possible!
