Winkey2 not working because DTR pin low (fixed)

Post by PE5TT »

Finally found why the RS-232 version of Winkey2 is not working with Log4OM, this has been the case since version 1 and is still not working in version 2

The problem is that Log4OM does not set DTR pin high, this pin is used to power the Winkey2 interface.
Would be nice if Daniele could set this pin to high in a next version of Log4OM, don't think the Winkey3 interface would mind.

This would only apply to the serial version of WK so a user selection of a different Winkeyer will be required plus the DTR change

The only thing that has to be done is to set DTR to always high on the selected Winkey comport.

This will not harm the Winkey3 USB keyer as it is not using the DTR pin as it draws its power from the USB bus. (DTR is not even connected)

No user selection or interface changes are necessary as the Winkey2 works fine with Log4OM when its got power.

<quote>Yes both of them</quote> strange as i only sent one

i got the new version, and pin 4 DTR is now high when Winkey2 is active
however that is with the external power workarround i made, because it is not working yet

When i don't use the external power DTR is briefly high and then the timeout occurs and it goes low again.
In contrast to the USB keyer the pic processor is not started until DTR goes high.
But Log4OM immediately start talking to the Winkey2 when DTR goes high.
I don't think de PIC processor has fully booted, which results in a timeout.
When i disconnect the external power after successful initialization it al keeps working now DTR is high

Could you please wait a few hundred milliseconds before polling the keyer for life signs after DTR goes high.
Or maybe try a second time after the first doesn't work so the USB guys don't have to wait.

Yesterday i did a extensive check with the external power supply and all functions in Log4OM work just fine with Winkey2, that all looks very promising

Just a update,

I got a new development version that has a delay of 1 sec before Log4OM starts to talking to Winkey2 serial to give it time to boot-up.

IT WORKS :D finally i can use Winkey2 serial in Log4OM
