Logging 60M QSO Issues

Post by W1SMC »

Not sure if anyone else has this going on .....

If I am on 60M and enter a callsign the Band selector dropdown field is NOT automatically updated to 60m. When I attempt to save the QSO by pressing the ENTER key a message is displayed "Unable to save QSO. Data missing". If I update the Band field and select 60m from the dropdown and then press the Enter key the QSO information is then added to the database successfully.

However when I double click the log entry the Edit QSO dialog displays and the Band shows 60m and then disappears. The Band & RX Band fields are both empty. You cannot save this QSO unless you update / change the Band & RX Band information. Also, if you do update / change the Band & RX Band information and select 60m from the dropdown list you will be able to save the QSO. However, after saving the QSO with the updated Band & RX Band information, I went back to view the QSO in the Edit QSO dialog. The Band & RX Band information did display but only momentarily. After a second it disappeared as though I had not previously updated / changed it. So I was back to square one.

What IARU region/bandplan have you selected in the program config?

What frequency are you operating on?

What mode are you using?

What version of Log4om are you using?

Is the QSO coming from an external program?

What radio is connected for CAT

Which CAT control are you using Omnirig or Hamlib or TCI?

Terry,

Thanks for the quick response ....

What IARU region/bandplan have you selected in the program config? ==> 2
What frequency are you operating on? ==> 5358.500
What mode are you using? ==> CW
What version of Log4om are you using? ==> V2.16.0.0
Is the QSO coming from an external program? ==> No
What radio is connected for CAT ==> Ten Tec Orion 2 (also have a Kenwood TS-890 connected as radio 2)
Which CAT control are you using Omnirig or Hamlib or TCI? ==> OmniRig

I'm sure it's something on my end .... A setting I hosed or did not complete correctly .....

I put your call into the CALLSIGN entry field and it displayed all of the correct information. However, the Band dropdown is empty AND there is a small red square with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point to the far right of the Band entry field.

Also, the RX Band entry field is empty.

I hope this helps .....

Terry,

I also switched between the two radios and I have the same issue with both.

One thing to note .... When I change the band via the radio say from 60M to 20M the Band does change in the software. When I change back to 60M though the Band entry field goes back to being empty and the RX Band entry field is empty..

If this does not happen with you and others then I would assume it is on my end .....

Could it be possible that we have a 60m bandpart in IARU R1 and the US is on channels ?
If so you must have setted up the correct IARU region to get it to work. Also your TRX
must be a TRX for the R2 to check out for the right Bandplan. If you are not on one of
the US 60m channels the CAT should be send an "Out of Band" and then it can´t be work.

Only my simple idea ... ;) ;)
73´s .. Juergen ... ALT-512 SDR (10W) , 50 m random wire at SG-211 autotuner, 2 x Xiegu G90 (20W HF TRX) one as portable Radio. Also TS-790E (40 W) for VHF/UHF with X-50 vertical and Duoband 4-Element LPDA.

Checking the Bandpan file for DXCC 291 which is your local regional version of the region 2 bandplan set by the call sign and region that you enter in the config file you are operating outside the frequencies allocated for the USA!

These are the 60m allocations for your region as supplied to us

<BandPlanRange>
<Band>60m</Band>
<Start>5330.495</Start>
<End>5330.505</End>
<EmissionType>PHONE</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>
<BandPlanRange>
<Band>60m</Band>
<Start>5346.495</Start>
<End>5346.505</End>
<EmissionType>PHONE</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>
<BandPlanRange>
<Band>60m</Band>
<Start>5356.995</Start>
<End>5357.005</End>
<EmissionType>PHONE</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>
<BandPlanRange>
<Band>60m</Band>
<Start>5371.495</Start>
<End>5371.505</End>
<EmissionType>DIGITAL</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>
<BandPlanRange>
<Band>60m</Band>
<Start>5403.495</Start>
<End>5403.505</End>
<EmissionType>PHONE</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>

Try having a QSO inside your frequenct allocations

I went back and changed between regions 1, 2, and 3 ..... still the same issue.

I hope this is unique to my configuration.

As a mainframe software developer and tester for 45+ years I've seen some strange bugs .... so nothing surprises me .....

So if no one else has this issue then it's on my end .....

I just explained your problem- you are operating outside your countries band allocations, operate within your licence constraints and try again

It's not a bug!

I tried each of the frequencies you provided and I still was not able to get the Band and RX Band to change to 60M. And that was for all of the regions 1, 2, and 3.

Also note that my understand (here in the US) is there are 10 channels we are able to use on 60 meters. 5 for SSB and 5 for Digital and CW.

Here is the information provided directly from the ARRL:

http://www.arrl.org/60m-channel-allocation

Amateurs are permitted to operate on five frequency channels, each having an effective bandwidth of 2.8 kHz.

Table 1:
Channel 1: 5330.5 kHz
Channel 2: 5346.5 kHz
Channel 3: 5357.0 kHz
Channel 4: 5371.5 kHz
Channel 5: 5403.5 kHz

CW Operation
CW operation must take place at the center of your chosen channel. This means that your transmitting frequency must be 1.5 kHz above the suppressed carrier frequency as specified in the Report and Order (see Table 1). Operating at strict channel-center frequencies may come as a disappointment to many, but cooperating with the NTIA is key to expanded privileges in the future.
The channel center frequencies are:

Channel 1: 5332.0 kHz
Channel 2: 5348.0 kHz
Channel 3: 5358.5 kHz
Channel 4: 5373.0 kHz
Channel 5: 5405.0 kHz

You can modify the file yourself its called bandplan_dxcc291.xml and its located here C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Log4OM2\bandplan

Did you ensure the bands are selected correctly in the settings/program configuration/user preferences menu
