Saving and restoring program and database configuration

Post by sq9jxb »

Hello All

I propose to consider the option of restoring the program configuration in a simpler way.

1. Save the configuration - eg in the config file, json : .zip in the location indicated by the user.
2. Restore the configuration from the indicated config.json file.

Saving the configuration would also include saving the log to an .adi file. However, after selecting the -> Save configuration option, the database backup would take place first, and then the configuration would be saved to the config.json file. or .zip file
Similarly, when restoring the configuration, the program would perform two operations,
- 1 restore configuration
- 2 database restoration.

This would also work for transferring the configuration to another computer.

The current way of restoring the program configuration is not very intuitive.

This is how it works, for example, in UR5EQF_log.

A backup of the database, configuration and Award is made in a .zip file and from the .zip file all data is restored.

This is an FYI only. YMMV.

I always look for portable versions of any software I want to test and eventually use.

Portable versions can be easily moved from one PC to the next. Backups are as easy as simply copying the folder to another media. It can be zipped to save space. Restoring is just a matter of copying the folder from the external media back to the PC again.

Hello everyone

We have a nice program thanks to my colleagues. I used a few myself as the main log and eventually stayed with Log4OM.
I have no problems with it in everyday use, but you can always improve something. And I think my proposal is worth considering.
Thank you to the entire team for their input in developing the program.

Greetings from Poland

Hi Jan,
the idea is not "new" and i'm already thinking about.
There are some "difficulties" as Log4OM allows you to use different backup methods (whole SQLITE file, ADIF, both in zipped and plain flavour) and there are users with MYSQL where we cannot automatically create a new database and restore their data.
A "basic" tool is already on my plans, but will still require a bit of user interaction on file selection and choice (as you may want to restore a specific point-in-time backup.

Will be probably in one of the next releases, but as said, as a "guided tool" rather than a fully automatic restore mechanism

Hello Danielle

It is a good idea to create such a tool and have various options for creating and restoring settings and databases, including sqlite and MySql.

Thanks for your interest in the topic.
