Win 10

Post by K0HB »

MicroSoft Win 10 will be a free upgrade from Win 7 or 8.1, coming soon to a computer near you.

Any beta testers out there who have tried it?

How do legacy ham radio apps behave? Any gotchas?

Hans
I have been running Windows 10 Preview for the past 3 months. I am on the "fast" update track with Win 10, so been seeing a few changes along the way from Microsoft. At this time I do not have any problems running my "ham" apps. PC is an i7 CPU with 16GB RAM plus hard drives. Everything runs nice and fast and if anything smoother than Win 8.1. If there are any problems with Win 10 then it is easy to roll back to the previous build (in one of the earlier builds I had an audio (DAX) problem with my SDR software). The apps I run on a daily basis are;
Log4OM, Flex SmartSDR, PST Rotator, FLDigi and VE7CC.
If you do migrate to Win 10 Preview then I do recommend you take REGULAR BACKUPS OF IMPORTANT DATA just in case something stops working. And a warning that many app developers will not offer much, if any, support for their software until Win 10 becomes an official released build.

And if you take a careful look at your win7 or 8 task bar you might already see a new icon over on the right hand side.......

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday (now that its an official release). All my ham radio apps work fine except Fldigi - where I'm unable to select the audio card. Others are reporting the same problem. The issue is not consistent, it works for some, but not others. You can check out the Yahoo group for the latest info: Win-fldigi.

Have been running Win 10 for several days now, and it seems like a good OS.

I have found one problem. In the help menu I cannot open the Log4OM website, I cannot go to this forum, and I cannot open the HRDLog.net site. In other words, it seems that the firewall (or something) blocks the use of those menu items. Interestingly, from the main screen I >>CAN<< open the browser using the <f11> tab.

Has any Win 10 user found a way to fix this behavior?

Thanks for the info on Windows 10 OS guys. I was concern about Log4OM and Omni-Rig working with it. I have the free download waiting to be installed on my PC. However, I'm going to hold off installing it for a while longer. Again thanks for the info. 73

I am running Win10 and do not see the issues that KH0B indicates in his post above. All works fine on my end.

The problem persists.

Here is the Log4OM log report after trying (from the help menu) to hook up with the Log4OM webpage, and after trying to hook up with this forum.
