Contest Mode....what am I doing wrong?
After enabling Contest Mode and selecting the appropriate contest template, eg. for this weekend's contest I've selected RSGB-IOTA, clicked Auto generate starting the serial from 001, then highlighted the Cluster to see Who & Where.....a tab for my sent auto generated serial number shows up as does the Received tab for the other stations serial but there's nowhere to include the other stations IOTA number ....the only other tab I see is a Ten-Ten counter and given I'm not a Ten-Ten member nor collect it's numbers it's not something I need...is there an option not to show the Ten-Ten tab and free the space up for a more crucial piece of information pertaining to the selected contest?

The IOTA number is automatically entered into the 'IOTA Group' field in the 'Country & IOTA' F2 tab of the entry window, if it does not do so then you can select the reference from the drop down provided.

The IOTA Reference is derived from the RSGB IOTA island list included in the software and provided for automatic download should you require it, we do not take the IOTA ref from the cluster because often it is entered incorrectly by the spotter!

I guess that you also realised that you can enter your IOTA reference in the 'suffix' field of the F8 contest tab?

Hi Terry ,

I am still learning a lot of LOG4OM.

One more question: What is the use of the TEN-TEN field in F3? I cannot find an explanation.

That's information you have to manually input, it doesn't occur automatically in "Contest Mode".
An example of what I'm referring to is; I've just worked OH6RX and he give me the exchange 59 (RS report) 2030 (serial number) EU-101 (IOTA), under Contest Mode I can input the RS and the Serial but there's nowhere to input the IOTA and it's the IOTA determines the point value of the contact.
Under normal Ragchew conditions taking the time to fill out the IOTA details is workable but not under contest conditions, for instance in your example whereas ZD7FT can only be on the AF022 Group....the OH6 can be in any one of 6 island groups so it needs to be inputted manually and the only way to do that is have an available tab during contest mode.
As it stands now with every contest asking at least two pieces of information for an exchange to be valid and with the logger only having provision for the signal report exchange......it can't be used as a Contest Logger, the TEN-TEN tab would need to be reconfigurable depending on the Contest ID selection.

Olaf, it's an organisation aimed at promoting 10m activity, you join and are given a 10-10 number whereupon you seek out other members and exchange numbers.

Iota field is in f2 tab. It's a standard adif Information. Everything else must be set in rcvd field. Adding a new field and ignoring iota field provides in f2 will leave your log without iota informations and statuses.
Another thing is if we talk about mom adif fields like lighthouses or similar... and we are working on that too.

...but, surely you must see the impracticality of after entering the signal report and serial number in "Contest Info (F3) " someone then has to leave that field and open the "Country & IOTA (F2) field just so the final piece of information can be added....the IOTA number of the IOTA group the operator is, and this happening while trying to maximise the number of contacts being logged.
Has any other tried using LOG4OM during a contest?

Yes, true, but IOTA is something different, because has it's own field to be filled.
I can provide a field for informations in contest screen, but this field can contain everything, related to the contest, and this kind of field is not in ADIF.
ADIF fields for contest are received and sent.

If i provide a field to be filled with "external informations" you will not have the informations in the F2 (COUNTRY & IOTA) field filled, and your IOTA statistics will be incomplete.
Moving IOTA field in the CONTEST screen can be useful, but only during IOTA contest...

I have not much possibilities in front of me, as far as i can see now...

Would it be possible just to flag an error if the IOTA reference was not completed during an IOTA contest entry? Like a pop up to warn the user to check F2 for missing data?

I have used the contest facility several times and it works fine for me, as it did during this weekend for RSGB IOTA. It did not miss one IOTA reference but I only worked 190 islands so I suppose it might have occasionally misfired for some people!

I am not an avid contester and I believe that most dedicated contesters would probably use N1MM so that they can check scores etc then import the N1MM log into Log4om. Don't know how N1MM handles IOTA though?

Terry, log the station as I gave as an example in contest mode RSGB IOTA......which tab did you use for the island group?
It's can't be on auto-fill because depending where the operator has decided it can be one of the many islands within the DXCC entity, Finland has 7 island groups and the operator i logged was on eu-101 but it could just have easily been EU-96, 97, 126,140,173, or EU-184
So unless you left the contest exchange box and entered the information elsewhere I think you'll find you haven't logged the most relevant piece of information....the island group.
Terry and Danielle, Is it possible to supply another field in the Contest screen acceptable as a valid entry using Cabrillo?
