Sync SDRUno with RSP1 and Log4OM without CAT capable RIG

Post by on6bvk »

Hi
I am Koen, ON6BVK and already radio amateur from 1992.
I was always using VHF and up.
Recently I bought the a RSP 1 with a HY end fed wire and it works well.
I am also using the Log4OM programm which I like a lot.
But I would like to sync SDR Uno with Log4OM making use of OmniRig, but for some reason
I cannot get them talk together. Maybe because I am not using a CAT capable RIG.
For VHF I use the TM-D700 which has a COM-port. I can use the Kenwood program to read and write from and to the RIG, but I don't think it has CAT possibilities, not sure.
I tried also to connect each program together making use of a VSP, no luck.
The SDR UNO tells me that it is connected to OMNIRIG, but log4OM not.
Before buying a HF RIG want to experiment a bit ;-)

The PC that I am using is a laptop with an i3 CPU, W10-64 bit, 2Gb RAM.
It is not the fastest PC, but every progam runs. There is no physical COM port on it, so I use a USB to serial convertor. Maybe this can also a problem.

Does anyone has some hints

Try using the Kenwood TS2000 rig selection in Omnirig and see if that will communicate with the SDRUno

Ensure that you select the correct baud rate as selected in the SDRUno software

And of course the correct Com port

Hi Terry,

Tnx for the quick reply.
I already tried the TS2000 rig selection in Omnirig, but no succes.
I tried different com port speed settings but also no succes.
The other settings were compared and are the same.

Is it neccessary to have a physical rig connected?
If not I disconnect my TM-D700

Hi Terry,

This morning I did a test from scratch.
I connected my TM-T700e via COM3 to the PC.
Port setting baud rate 38400.
Started Log4OM and configured the CAT via Hamlib and this works ;)
Only for 2m and 70cm of course and only for one VFO. Clicking on a station in the Cluster (VHF or UHF)
changes the frequency, so step 1 completed succesfully.
Changing the frequency on the rig also changes the frequency in Log4OM.
I have to leave home now, the next try will be with omnirig.
My rig is not in the list, but I read that the settings for TS2000 should work if I am not mistaken.

Hi,

I tried again the cat connection of my tm-d700 with omnirig instead of hamlib.
The tm-d700 is not in the list, but I tried the TH-F6A settings and with success!
The Ts 2000 or other ts rig does not do the job for my rig.
So I next step is to use a vsp splitter and try to connect also sdruno.

Hi Koen,

nice that it works ;)

Only as an Info. If you have connected your RIG via a USB2Serial cable COM splitting will not work.
Splitting is only possible if you have the RIG connected to a hardware COM.

I´ve tested this several times with no luck :? :?

Hi

Thank you for the info about splitting the COM-port.
On that laptop there is no physical COM-port present I use a USB to Serial convertor.

I am expecting a new computer to replace an older computer. This old computer has physical COM-ports.
Now I will upgrade the old PC to a shack PC ;-)
Hopefully that old PC will be fast enough to do all the jobs I want, we will see.

Hi,

On a PC with a physcical COM-port everything is running smooth, so the (lowcost) USB to serial convertor is not suitable to do the job.
