FT8 spots put Kenwood into FSK-R mode

Post by KW0RH »

Something causes my TS-480 to switch to FSK-R mode when clicking on a FT-8 spot. (It should be USB) It doesn't matter which band I choose, if the spot is at the FT8 frequency the mode switches to FSK-R. All spots of other modes I've tried consistently produce the correct result. All external software (WSJT-X and JTAlert) is off. I don't know whether this is a bug or I have something mis-configured.

As usual the inevitable question!

Omnirig or Hamlib?

In that case you can change the Omnirig ini file for your radio yourself

C:\Program Files (x86)\Afreet\OmniRig\Rigs

Find the appropriate radio file

Edit the pmDIG_U and pmDIG_L to the appropriate command for your radio - See your radios user manual for these codes (Probably an 'MD' command for a Kenwood)

Unfortunately Omnirig cannot know which one of the digi modes you want to use so they choose FSK as a safe bet

"MD2" did the trick. Thanks.
