LoTW Automatic Upload

Post by k9bm »

Apparently I am doing something wrong, because nothing ever gets uploaded when I close Log4OM. I have entered my LoTW UserID and Password, I don't know what TQSL Private pass is(?), I selected the path to start tsql.exe, and selected a temporary path. I entered my (opt) call, and selected Automatic upload on closing. When I close down the program and then reopen it to look at the log, I see the creation of backup files and so forth, but no mention of LoTW uploads, and indeed the LoTW website shows no uploads received. Is there a way to force an upload to troubleshoot? Or is this because I don't know what a "TQSL Private Pass" is and have left it blank?

Did you see this thread and particularly the last post from Doug?

I'm not sure that thread applies to my situation. I don't get any error messages in Log4OM, it simply doesn't upload the log. What exactly should I see, if anything, when closing Log4OM if it correctly uploads to LoTW?

Well in any event, I was able to export my log in ADIF format from Log4OM and upload it manually from TQSL. I've written a recurring calendar reminder in Outlook so I will do this process once a week, until I figure out how to use this feature of Log4OM....

Oh, but I did read the snarky RTFM post which was probably inspired by my ignorance, at least partly. So just for the record, I did read the quick start guide, I did install the program as admin and ensured that it is running as such, I did search the full manual for info on configuring LoTW automatic upload, and I did (often) check the log to find ANY hint that anything was wrong. There is absolutely no message in the log to indicate that any error was encountered, and there is also no message indicating that the program ever made an attempt to upload anything to LoTW--at least not that I can see. And no, I'm not a programmer, and I don't play one on TV. I'm just a ham licensed for 52 years trying to keep my head above water in a digital age.

Brad,
I am not sure where all this comes from and I cant see any "SNARKY" comments that you refer to? The suggestion to check the other thread was because the issue seemed very similar to yours and may have helped you!

The section of the log file that you posted is after any attempted upload to Log4OM, if Log4OM was set to do so, as a result it is not of any help.

The best way we can help you is if you generate a support request and email it to me at g4pop (AT) arrl.net - DO NOT POST IT TO THIS FORUM

Instructions for doing so are here http://www.log4om.com/log4om-support/

Please ensure that

1. You set the program to trace mode
2. Once in trace mode set everything to automatically upload to LOTW before closing the program - The action of closing the program switches off trace mode
3. Restart the program and generate the support request ensuring that you check the box to include the ADIF file

If I cannot find your issue by checking the support request I will ask one of our team who is in the US to contact you and provide one on one assistance.

One thing I will mention is that although having special characters like !"£$%^&*()+{}][:@;'<>?/\#~ in your LOTW/TQSL password is fine for entering the LOTW web site or use in TQSL for some reason LOTW will not accept those characters when external software is uploading via the LOTW API so please ensure that your password does not include such characters.
