Re: eQSL Image download issues

Post by G4POP »

Of course we want to hear about potential bugs in our software but as Lele our programmer and I have stated we don't perceive this as a bug.

We use what is provided by eQSL as is and without change.

This feature has been thoroughly tested by our Alpha and Beta test teams without issue, also no other user has so far reported it as an issue.

You seem to have the wrong impression about our attitude, but I can assure you that if we receive a bug report from users and see it as an issue we will move heaven and earth to fix it, just ask our users!

Let's see if anyone else finds this a problem if they do we will re visit it but so far it seems that ifranView is flagging a false positive

Well, there is a first time for everything.

I know, and I'm a loyal user, which is why this error seemed like something you would want to know about. :?

No, irfanvview is not reporting a "false positive". I just opened a saved eQSL from the log4OM QSL save directory ( ... log4OM - N5INP - 2015 /. It was stored as a .png file. I opened that eQSL in Gimp - another well known image editing program, and it reports the file is a .jpg encoded file (see attachment) - even if the extension is .png. It's not a .png file.

So no, there is no "false positive": the file is not a .png it's a .jpg.

I understand now you don't want to do anything about it, (such as change the extension to the correct one), and it's something coming from eQSL, but that does not mean it's not wrong. If eQSL is sending it out with the wrong extension, I understand that, but the file is in objective fact a .jpg with a .png extension, which is not correct.

We don't dispute that but we are just downloading what eQSL provide, did you consider chasing eQSL about this, perhaps they will change it!

That's an option I'm looking at. Is it OK to post screen shots of log4OM's windows there?

I just got the answer from the eQSL team. Here's the thread I posted -

http://www.eqsl.cc/Forums/index.cfm?pag ... picID=2271

you can read all the info, and here is their answer -
Ok! I'm putting this back to the Log4OM guys.

The program that downloads as eQSL graphic is called GeteQSL.cfm, the documentation for that program is here: http://www.eqsl.cc/QSLCard/GeteQSL.txt

What I did was handcraft a URL to retrieve one of my eQSL graphics. The card was displayed, and when I right click to bring up the save as dialogue, the file extension is .jpg.

You can also do the same test, if you look at the bottom of that document it shows you how to build the URL, just substitute the username/password and the QSO details.

Sure. I've spent several hours of my own time on this, and if I didn't care about the program and/or helping make it the best it can be I wouldn't bother. If there is a reason that eQSL needs to know about I'd be happy to post it back over there.

we're listening and checking every error report. We made accurate checks on code for "extension rewriting" functions that we eventually use, but we keep the original file extension.

If you read my previous post you can see that:
1) file downloaded from EQSL is reported with PNG extension
2) file downloaded from EQSL begins, using an hex editor, with "PNG" as file descriptor.

I understand what you're saying, but probably this report should be forwarded to eQSL, as we're downloading files from there.
No one raised doubts on your software, but both statements above says that downloaded file (at least the one i get as a test) are png.

Anyway i've sent a mail to eQSL guys, and i'm waiting for an answer.

I have now posted your response over there so the person that I was working with there can see it. I don't know what's going on. They say they tried it and got a .jpg as a download, you say it's a .png, and what I open up from the QSO database record is a .jpg encoded file with a .png extension. Something is amiss ...

I'm checking right now the code.

If you call "GeteQSL.cfm" method:
http://www.eqsl.cc/qslcard/GeteQSL.cfm? ... OMinute=08

You can try replacing my data with your one to make a test

The URL will return get this webpage source, that you can copy-paste in a .html page and open on your PC:

Code: Select all

<!-- Application In Root eQSL Folder -->
<!-- Access Log -->
  <!-- Not logged in -->
    <!-- Not in access log -->
<!-- If there have been no errors to this point, parse for tag <IMG SRC= and the URL path to the graphic will follow in double quotes -->
<!-- The .. should be replaced with http://www.eQSL.cc in the full URL specification -->

<img src="/CFFileServlet/_cf_image/_cfimg5276047391017921816.PNG" alt="" />
<!-- End of the eQSL file location -->
As you can see the file image is PNG.

In the page you linked with instructions you can read:

Code: Select all

2. If no error was found, search for the string "<IMG SRC=" and then use the following text
string that will be comma-delimited as the relative URL pointing to the location of the eQSL
graphic in a temporary file folder. Download that file within the next few hours as it will
be automatically purged periodically.
