Operator Callsign vs Owner Callsign

Post by KU3V »

I notice when I double click on a row from the recent QSO choice. You see at the bottom of the screen "Operation Callsign" however the column choices within the layout shows "Owner Callsign".

When you go into the "QSO Archive" and then "Archive management" select a record after searching. Open the record and at the bottom is "Operator Callsign".

Thus "Owner Callsign" and "Operatior Callsign" are the same data column. Shouldn't they be the same name to avoid confusion?

ADIF supports multiple callsigns:

STATION CALLSIGN, that is the CALLSIGN OVER THE AIR
OPERATOR is the OPERATOR CALLSIGN
OWNER CALLSIGN is the callsign of the owner of the station used to log the contact (the callsign of the OPERATOR hosting the owner into his radio shack)

In the UPDATE QSO you have:
STATION CALLSIGN (IW3HMH/QRP)
OPERATOR CALLSIGN (IW3HMH but it's not widely used...)
OWNER CALLSIGN is rarely used and it's not exposed in the edit screens as dedicated field.

In case of special operation (invented callsigns):

STATION CALLSIGN: G100RSGB (special station for event)
OPERATOR CALLSIGN: IW3HMH (the callsign of the operator that is using the station callsign and transmit)
OWNER CALLSIGN: G4POP (i'm transmitting from the G4POP radio shack in UK)

Please let me know if there is something bad or mistyped in interfaces, or unclear after this explanation ;)

I think FAQ is probably a better spot but I will add an edited version to the appropriate section of the user guide also

I moved this thread to the 'User Support' area because it is not an error as originally posted.

Good Idea Sandro
