One other important factor regarding paper cards vs. LOTW is the QSO time.

With a paper card, time is of no use as the card itself is the verifying instrument.

With a LOTW QSL, time is a critical factor, in that the time of the QSO must MATCH (plus or minus 30 minutes) between the two LOTW QSLs. The reason for this is the ARRL does not want to encourage "fishing" for the QSO time where either operator recorded the time of QSO incorrectly.

In both paper and LOTW the frequency is not used at all, only the band.

Hope the above clarifies the differences between the two, Paper vs. LOTW QSLs

I have my HAM license since 1990 so it seems not so old.
All my needed data exist on lotw report files.
The problem is that in every report file something else is missing so you can't get a full DXCC credits picture.

Not so much efforts as for programming time are needed for lotw team to export all needed info that exist in their database so that a good program such as Log4OM could import and cause the user enjoy the experience of using the DXCC award page.

I have sent lotw DXCC team an Email a week ago with my questions regarding this issue but no response yet.

I would like to thank Doug W7DRM for his efforts and his external tool that try to solve the problem.

I am having problems uploading my old (from 1977) DXCC info. I downloaded the DXCC file form the Awards section of LOTW. I am a relative neophyte with this kind of stuff. Could someone please walk me through the steps of uploading the DXCC file to LOG4OM? I was going to attached the file to this message but I got an error message saying the file name was not valid. If whoever answers this gives me their email address I will forward the DXCC file.

Thanks,
Dave Altwies, W8QXR

Hello Dave.

At moment I am not at home, however I would like to say it is more easy than you are thinking.
Log4OM makes all the work for you. :D
Please see manual, it is very well explained, if necessary, later I can tell you the page manual where you can find the complete information.

Dave, email me at svtdoug(at)gmail(dot)c0m and I will email you my DXCC Credit Granted Import program and instructions. As explained earlier in this thread, there are limitations due to incomplete/missing data prior to 1996, but with some judgement and patience, you can get an accurate update to your Credit Granted status in Log4OM - based on the DXCC export file.
