Not connected to any database error

Post by W4TME »

This is a new 1.28.0.0 installation on Win10

I installed the app without any issues.
I created a new SQLite database, added my QTH info, setup CAT and the cluster without any issues and saved the database (no errors reported)
I restarted Log4OM and it connected to my database [RUNNING][ACTIVE]
The CAT interface works fine and is tracking my radio
The Cluster interface starts up and works properly too.

If I enter a call in the log form, including call, name, RST, when I try to save it, I get the error: "Not connected to any database or database error"

I have deleted the database and created a new one and I get the same error. Help is needed.

What is the location of the database (Path)?

Good question. I can't find an answer to where it is supposed to be located.

Make a new database in your documents folder

OK. I did that. Now it works. Why doesn't the program create a database on installation???????????

That seems fundamental to create a database for QSOs when the program is installed for the first time. Or at least some some sort prompt to do so. This was a really bad initial user experience

We don't automatically create a database during installation because of the variety of locations that our users may wish to use including the various cloud storage systems, additionally users prefer to use a dedicated database name.

Additionally the latest versions of Windows includes heighten security measures which can, on occasion, block saving data to certain locations dependent on the user preferences.

BTW you said in your first post "I created a new SQLite database"

Creation of the database is covered in the Quick start Guide, YouTube tutorials and the instruction manual all of which I recommend to your serious contemplation.

As you were not aware that you needed to create a database I wonder if you installed LOg4OM as an administrator? instructions for which are covered in the guides and tutorials listed above.

We apologise for your "Really bad initial user experience" and hope that once you get used to the foibles of our free software that you enjoy it as much as we did when we designed and wrote it.

Thank you for trying Log4OM
