Time off by 12 hours

Post by w9mdb »

I have a friend who is having a rather odd problem with manually entering QSO times.

He has found:

#1 Not touching the Start or End times and having a time of 00:00-11:59 gets entered correctly in the "Recent" tab.
#2 Manually entering a time of 00:00-11:59 gets entered +12 hours in the Recent tab, but the normal time shows in the QSO details.
#3 Manually entering a time of 12:00-23:59 gets entered correctly

I can't duplicate his behavior on mine but I've seen it on his computer.

So how can the time in Recent be different from the QSO time in the details? He is in USA Central Time Zone.

Here's a screenshot showing the two different times...

My guess is that he has window TIME DISPLAY format set to a 12 hour clock, like AM/PM

For the purposes of ADIF we save the time using the 24 hour clock format i.e. 23:39 or 17:45 etc

Tell your friend to change the format to 24 hour display and manually enter time in that format and all should be OK

I've got mine set to AM/PM display and it works just fine.

It shouldn't matter what the screen display is. The time on the QSO entry form is 24 hours.
If anything, the AM/PM setting would take 23:00 and make it 11:00PM...not the other way 'round.
It's adding 12 hours to a time < 12 instead of subtracting 12 from a time > 12.

I'll have him switch to a different format but are you saying the F8 tab does not use 24-hour format all the time? Mine is in 24-hour format but my desktop is AM/PM.

Check your screen shot.
The edit window shows 11:52:08 which if my assumption is correct DISPLAYED in the 12 hour format it was entered in.

The qso record in the F8 window correctly shows the 24hour equivalent of the edit window 23:52:08

Why would that field and the Recent field be interpreted as anything other than 24-hour? That sounds like a bug to me if the code is interpreting based on some local setting.

OK...he figured it out. There was no entry in the PM box.

Oh! so it was not a Log4OM bug after all just the Windows time incorrectly set!
