Hi all,
I'm facing again this problem.
Which is exactly the same problem I faced a few months ago with a Polish station, look at the following post:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2419&p=14029&hilit=poland#p14029
But this time with a Russian station located in Saint Petersburg. Log4Om shows it as Franz Josef Land, why???
Look at this spot (a screenshot from my software).
Is there something that can be done to avoid this problem?
I manually changed the location in the QSO in my log, but I still see this spot with the wrong country.
Thanks for your help in advance

R1FF why Franz Josef Land instead of European Russia??
Re: R1FF why Franz Josef Land instead of European Russia??
Hi Joe,
It is caused by the Russian call sign assignments are a mess to deal with. What you see is "grandfathered" calls that no longer fit the ITU or IARU assignments.
I'll see what I can do to set it straight for this call. There will be a great number of them.

I have looked into this and have come to the conclusion that Log4OM will stay with the ITU/IARU assignments for call signs.
In this case, it is the same as if I K7PT, were to operate from KH6 (Hawaii) using just my call, K7PT. The lookup would show that I'm in the U.S., not Hawaii. There is no way that Log4OM can determine that I'm actually not in the U.S.
The world is not perfect. Nor is Log4Om as it is not a mind reader.
