QSO Archive - QSO Awards

Post by g4pdf »

Whilst it's possible for filtered and selected QSO records to be modified 'on bulk' using the 'Field update' option to 'replace' an award program value, is there a way (what text expression :?: ) to 'add' to the field value(s); I'm thinking here of a group of Country specific QSOs to which I want to add an award, say IARU region1, without recourse to recalling each individual QSO from the list and selecting IARU1_USR@xx on the Award dropdown... and repeat.

Bit of a convoluted way to do it if you are not conversant with Regular expressions however........

What you could do is bulk edit the comments or notes fields to contain the IARU1_USR@xx

Then in the Field to update window use the 'Rebuild references from QSO notes' or 'Rebuild references from QSO comments' features

Selecting candidate records, I put IARU1_USR@xx in the QSO Notes field, and then executed rebuild references from QSO notes. After start and END indication nothing had changed on closing the Field Upate panel. I also tried using the QSO comment field to rebuild references and that had no effect.

Bob,
Is this IARU award one that you devised yourself, if so that's the reason because the facility to rebuild is for our default set of references and IOTA/SOTA

The <award name>@USR denotes this (IARU-R1) as a custom award, so the 'update references' route is not open to me.

That leaves my question regarding the feasibility of bulk addition of Custom QSO Award(s) by some other means.

Unfortunately there is no other way and having spoken to Lele about this even the regular expression route is very difficult if not impossible.

However there are only 35 or so zones in region 1 so it should not be too much of a task to add them manually.

You could bulk edit QSO's that don't already have any other awards recorded and then edit manually those that are left.

Perhaps this is something we should consider for version 2

Like others on the Forum I have written the IARU-R1 Award definiation and the works fine (application for award posted :) )

That's what I have done, as I thought I knew the answer would be in the negative. Thanks for investigating; this requirement will not go away as more users become conversant with the Award definitions and write their own, then face the prospect of updating all relevent QSOs in the log.
