SWL

Post by NR3E »

OK, I made an HF contact with someone and chatted for a while. A short wave listener heard the conversation and correctly noted the contact. He wants a QSL card which I will gladly send him. The question is, how do I log that in Log4OM? I didn't actually contact the SWL but I do want to record that I sent him a card.

Any ideas?

Log4OM does not have a facility for logging cards sent to a SWL it's designed for tw o way Qso's

You could log him as a contact but there would be no recognisable callsign to use!

Hi Ron,

i receive lot of SWL confirmations via eQSL and via paper cards. If i receive one
i take a look to my log to the contact the SWL confirms me. If that is o.k. i send
a reply via eQSL and/or via paper.

I do not import SWL cards into my Log so that is only for 2-way contacts.

B.t.w. the SWL has to send the call i worked in the comments. I don´t answere
cards to SWL stations when they only have my call and not the call i worked ..

Hello Ron,

Yes, SWL possibility is a very good idea, helping handle the SWL reports and also for printing QSL or sent via electronic way...
Let's wait and see what the future will bring :)

Hi Manuel,

I also think it is a good idea. I alway like to encourage SWLs and would also like a way of keeping track of SWL reports.

Maybe a right-click on the QSO that the SWL reported would allow an SWL card to be set up and then printed.

The question is ... why we need a function to "log" incoming SWL cards ?
An SWL is sending his cards always first so you can answere with your card
after the SWL card is reaching you.

The SWL card in the log is worth nothing. They don´t count for any Ham
award and so i think that there is no need to log this "contacts" which are
only one way contacts ....

By the way, that is what i think about this ..... ;) ;)

Hello,

Just my personal idea, nothing more... :P

I like to have SWL QSL, and it would be very interesting to know from where we have received a SWL report, in other hand I think that there is more "world" than only Awards to track...
In other hand, It would be esier to print a qsl to send.
I have received SWL reports via eQSL if L4OM could hande it it would help a lot!

But it is a questions of taste and personal interest.
If we have the function wthtin L4OM and if we want to use, we have, others that do not have interest simply ignore the function.

Long time ago I have created a litle software in VB6 to handle and print SWL cards, it was in windows 95... long time ago... hi hi hi.
A nice week.

Hi Manuel,

yes, i know that this is a personal idea from you but my answere is also
my personal meaning, HI ...

I love to receive SWL cards to so b4 i become a HAM i was 2 years an
SWL too. But if i receive SWL cards it´s much quicker to fill my card
out by hand before i have to type it in into Log4OM (or another one)
that i can print a label.

And, by the way, it´s more personal if an SWL receive a card which is
filled out by hand .... I don´t need this data in a HAM logger.

That´s what i mean but i´m not the whole community ... ;)

Hi Juergen,

L4OM is indeed a ham logging program, but I have come to regard it as a QSL management program too. As such I would like to be able to "log" an SWL's QSL and link it to the QSO that he referenced in L4OM.

I have always missed the feature and am only piping up as Manuel made the suggestion.

Cheers

Hi Guy,

but we all know that V1 is in maintenance mode since a longer period. Lele don´t like
to implement new features but it could be possible that this "SWL feature" got a place
in the Mantis list for V2.

But if so, Log4OM should also be made more usable for the SWL´s itself. Lele should
then add a column "You worked" or similar if this is ADIF compliant.

;) ;)
