Hello
The bandplan_dxx227.xml doesn't exist (for the FRENCH People)
so I created a bandplan_r1_user.xml file
to modify and add the FT8 mode for example :
But always the cluster "said" DIGITAL and not FT8 mode
what is wrong please ?
Thanks
Cluster always DIGITAL Mode

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
If you mean why digital instead of FT8 its because all modes like FT8, PSK, RTTY etc are Digital and classed as such

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
You could devise a custom highlight to mark FT8 transmissions when identified in 'Notes'

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
OK Terry
I made the custom with FT8 that works if the "FT8" word is in the Notes Field
Perhaps an idea for the future version to separate the FT8 (FT4) from the DIGITAL Mode ?
thanks again

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
No because dxcc and cq awards are purely based on digital and dont differentiate by individual modes
Also other than a spotter adding information to notes field, which is rare, there is no other mode defined info in the raw cluster data
Lastly the frequencies used for the various modes are not defined or abided to so we would have a complete mess.
Best to stick to established processes

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
OK Terry
but the problem is even though I created a file "bandplan_r1-user.xml" with some part of FT8 Mode
when I click on a spot in this part of FT8 mode ; the mode into the main Log4OM windows keep the "SSB" mode
the mode does not take into account the user file
the question becomes: what is the point of creating a user file?

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
By convention all digital modes like PSK, JT65, FT8, Hellschriber, Olyvia and all of the hundreds of other digital modes use USB - You set your radio to USB - D or similar for data transmission dont you?
When you double click on a cluster spot the mode changes on your radio to USB if its a spot in a digital/data part of the spectrum.
Incidentally you made an error in the bandplan that you edited it should be DIGITAL not FT8, see other bandplan entries for examples like
<BandPlanRange>
<Band>40m</Band>
<Start>7035</Start>
<End>7046</End>
<BandUpperLimit>false</BandUpperLimit>
<EmissionType>DIGITAL</EmissionType>
<ModulationType>USB</ModulationType>
</BandPlanRange>
1. Because without defining what parts of the band are to be used you could be operating outside of your countries band allocation and will be notified of being OUT OF BAND in Log4OMthe question becomes: what is the point of creating a user file?
2. So that log4OM can determine if the transmission type is Phone, CW or Digital/Data for the cluster identification.
3. So that CAT control can follow the settings you choose in the Options/Cat & Cluster tab regarding setting your radio to a digital mode like USB-D or RTTY for an Icom radio or inverting the sideband for some other radio types.
4. There are many countries within an IARU region and they do not all have the same frequency allocations e.g. In the UK we have several spot frequencies in the 60M band whereas Denmark can use the whole band and other areas have just one small section of 60M. So you can tailor a bandplan to be a 'USER' bandplan applicable to your specific country.
And if you are supremely helpfull you can make a special bandplan for your DXCC number and pass it to the Log4OM team for inclusion in later releases.
Bandplan selection priority order on starting Log4oM is as follows User bandpan - If not found then DXCC bandplan - If no DXCC bandplan - Generic IARU regional bandplan
The Bandplan does not enable any of the hundreds of digital modes to be selected in the mode field, this does require user intervention.

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
OK Terry
thank you very much Terry for all these explanations and your patience
unfortunately this is not what we expect when we are "DXer" ...
1) it is imperative to know instantly if:
- we contacted the country yes / no
- if we caught this country in this band yes / no
- if we contacted this country in this band AND in this mode yes/no
- if we contacted this calle in this band AND in this mode yes/no
For example Logger32 solved that with just a small chart, and seeing this chart we immediately got the answer to all these questions
2) the other indispensable thing is to respect the user band plan
if the user determines that between one and two frequency the mode is FT8, the software must take into account or not depending on the chosen options but must propose to log the QSO with the mode defined according to the user map strip or the selected mode of the TX
in conclusion, for me saw the tests done here, so I will not continue with Log4OM which unfortunately does not bring what is necessary with a modern Log
I will follow the evolution of the software anyway we never know
it's a shame because Log4OM has other arguments that are very good as for example using a SQL database, it's very good
I renew my thanks Terry and perhaps to another time
PS : if (by chance) you decide to improve this system of cluster analysis and Log and if you want, I can participate in the tests on request from you
Thanks again and 73

Re: Cluster always DIGITAL Mode
Thank you very much for your critique of our software all of its foibles.
Continue to enjoy Logger32 which I am sure suits you very well as a DXer
Feel free to return at some time in the future if you feel the need
