When moving mouse OVER any "save" or "Exit" or other similar, Crash Occurs

Post by NR4U »

version 2 v.2.30.1.0 on Linux Mint
For example, of many, when I finish the LOTW Tab under External ....and get the mouse-pointer NORTH of the Program Settings, or above the 'External Services' , such that "Save Config", or "Save and Apply" OR "exit" gets highlighted, immediately Microsoft .NET Framework Unhanded exception error appears.

I "believed" that I had all the M/S .NET stuff installed.

Seems a Linux issue and as your aware Log4OM is designed only for native Windows mainstream on a PC

With Archlinux and Wine plus wine-mono Log4OM worked perfectly until the last update of wine-mono using .NET implementation higher than 4.7.2 and then this problem occurred. I did not find a way to force wine-mono to use 4.7.2 version.
So, as Terry G4POP said it is a Linux problem.
My solution was to install the native Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 and use it in Wine.

Install winetricks, if not already done.

All must be done inside a new wine prefix that will isolate everything.

1) Creation of a new prefix (I chose log4om) with Q4Wine -> Prefixes
in Architecture select win32
2) Installation of .NET4.7.2
Q4Wine -> Setup ; select the new prefix
- click on System ; then Refresh Winetricks application list
- click on Winetricks then dlls
- in the right window double click on dotnet472
this will open a console displaying the advancement : .NET4.0 .NET4.5 .NET4.6 and finally .NET4.7.2
at each stage there is an agreement box by Microsoft to be checked
at the end the console remains open showing the last command : touch.... without any new line ; just close the console
3) Installation of Log4OM in the new prefix
Q4Wine with new prefix selected -> Programs
a) winecfg : select Windows 8.1 in Windows Version
b) explorer : find where Log4OM2_2_31_0_0.exe is stored and double click on it
4) First check
at the end of the installation process Log4OM will open with the Initial Configuration screen
normally you can move the mouse on any box flawlessly
let the screen empty and click on Exit
5) Copy of all your previous personal Log4OM stuff in the new wine prefix
It is well described in this forum -> FAQ -> How can I duplicate my setup on another PC. Thanks to Terry G4POP.
I did it with my Linux KDE file manager.
6) Launch Log4OM2
In Q4Wine select the new prefix then launch Explorer
double click on C: \ Program Files \ IW3HMH \ Log4OM NextGen \ L4ONG.exe
normally you will see all your setups and QSO.

For me now Log4OM in wine works well at least for my simple needs : no CAT, no Internet interrogation, no contest. I retrieved all my setups and QSO entered before the problem occurred. The ADIF import succeeded. The QSO map displays perfectly.

I hope this can help you and over OM using Linux.
