I have lost my config settings multiple times since 2019. This time instead of creating them all over again, I’m following the Emergency guide lines in the manual to restore last saved .json file.
I copy and paste the back up file into the user folder, rename it config.json and delete the current config.json file. When I open Log4OM the program writes a new config.json file and renames the one I just added to last_valid_config.json. And I am able to recover my previous config file. I’m stumped.
Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
Re: Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
I’m UNABLE to recover the previously saved .json file. Sorry fat fingered
Re: Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
Well holly crap… I restarted my computer before reopening the program and by golly there the old config s and log files were! How the heck did that happen? I’m still stumped but at least I’m back and up to date running 2.16.
Looking for any best practices in setting up my backup procedures. Like I wrote initially I have had this happen several times a year since 2019.

When you copy and paste the config file to the user folder is Log4OM open? you should do the copy and paste with Log4OM closed then when you open it it will use the config.json

Re: Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
Well it's happened again. After last update I opened Log4OM and it wants an entire new set up.
I again followed the instructions to restore my config. I kept Log4OM closed during the process.
After opening the program and looking at the user files, I see the config.json file I had added is now changed its name to last_valid_config.json and added a new config.json above it.
Again I'm stuck. What's going on?

That file is created automatically each day to ensure you have something to revert to in the event of an issue and no backup set.
Is your restored 'config.json' working OK?

Re: Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
No, when I open Log4OM it opens with the welcome to Log4OM V2 message.
I then have to click the x in the upper right corner and the configuration window opens with no data.
Last night I uninstalled the program and deleted the download file. Then started over with a new download and reloaded .
I attached what my config files look like after I open the program. The highlighted file is the config.json I had copied into the folder. It get replace with the config.json above and the file name is changed to last_ valid_config.json.

Re: Lost config setting again - not able to restore last saved .json file
The config.json looks fresh (only 13 KB). Rename the config.json to old_config.json and rename the last_valid_config.json
to config.json and restart again.
to config.json and restart again.

Same result. Program opened with welcome page.
A new config.json was opened and the previous was renamed.
