ESC no longer aborts transmission in Winkeyer window?

Post by G0UJA »

Previously, when sending a macro or text from the keyboard using a Winkeyer device, a quick press of the ESC key immediately stopped the transmission in Log4OM.

I appreciate you can use CTRL-A or the abort transmission button on screen but this is not as easy as using ESC was.

Is this behaviour intentional or a bug?

What version are you using?

Have you checked the latest user guide for Winkeyer keystroke information?

Sorry, I should have clarified - this is only since upgrading to the latest version V2.15.0.0.

I checked by downgrading to V2.14.1.0 and the ESC key works exactly as I explained it did previously in the Winkeyer window - if you are sending a macro or typing text, as soon as the ESC key is pressed the transmission is aborted.

I've just checked the latest user guide (updated a few days ago) and the ESC key is listed as follows:

Esc - Clears the call sign and lookup data

I know there has been some work on the Winkeyer window for this release so this new behaviour must be one of the changes - hopefully unintended and possible to revert?

The keystrokes are as listed in the user guide on page 90

Esc - Clears the call sign and lookup data (Not the text to be sent)
Ctrl=A - Clears the text from the text input field and aborts transmission
Ctrl+W - Clears all data in the text input field and aborts transmission

As far as I recall this set up is as a result of users requesting that we had the same keystrokes as N1MM does for Winkeyer

Thanks for looking at this.

I run N1MM+ as well and there is definitely something different in the latest version V2.15.0.0.

As I mentioned, previously whenever a macro was being sent you could hit the ESC key and it would immediately abort the transmission - this is true for N1MM+ as well.

In the latest V2.15.0.0 this no longer happens so if you mistakenly hit the wrong F key you have to fiddle around with multiple keys or the mouse to cancel it by which time either the macro has finished or you have totally confused to other operator.

Correct me if I am wrong but I struggle to accept that the current ESC keystroke setup is how anyone would actually request it to be in preference to how it was working prior to V2.15.0.0?

I've downgraded to v2.13.0.0 for the time being and turned 'check for updates' off.

Now everything is stable and working fine again.

V2.15.0.0 is unworkable with Winkeyer due to the newly configured keystrokes.
V2.14.1.0 is unworkable with Winkeyer due to the macro load button and the callsign field jumping issues (corrected in v2.15.0.0).

Hopefully this will be corrected in a future release.

Hi James,

yes I can confirm that in V2.15.0.0 the ESC-key in Winkeyer unfortunately no longer aborts the transmission. I did not find in the release notes that this change is intended.

Hi Terry,

from Help menue I forced update of user manual and get on page 90:

So this is different from your documentation - strange.

I would appreciate the behaviour of the ESC-key as it was before. PLEASE

Olaf
User guide dated 02/07/2021 from FTP server in English shows this and this is the latest version applicable to 2.15.0.0

Other translations could be different

Terry,

I used Help-User Guide-English (force update) and got the result above. After doing it again I received your version. So something was wrong with my first upgrade.

Nevertheless I would like the old ESC-key behaviour.

An explanation from Lele

Quote

"in the latest release we changed the sequence, to bring the esc key to work as in the main User Interface (where it clear the callsign area). So the previous ESC function has been moved to another key (the one that clears WK interface) but we can, bind it to any key we want"
