WIA Awards

Post by sv3auw »

Hi there!
I've been suspended from WIA Awards by Fawaz A92AA Awards Manager, because there were non-Island callsigns in my application for the 200 IOTA's award.
At first I didn't knew how that happen and didn't knew how to deal with it.
Eventually I realised that when I am at the "edit qso" page, there is a selection "Award Refs". Being there, there's a list of the awards this call-sign accounts for. Some or all of them, contain the... IOTA@code nr of the Island.
Can any of you tell me how that list is assembled? Is it me or my set-up who create this list or it is my corespondent call-sign who creates it automatically when I log it at the end of our qso?
For example I had a qso with RD0F at 15/5/21 on 17m and in the "Award Refs" I can see that he was operating(?) at AS-018 Sakhalin Island that day.
Now is it me who add that information at that Log$OM section or him and if it is him or any other station, why do I get judged for applying with false information? It is the first time happening probably because IOTA is something different than the ordinary WAS's and WAc's and so on and I don't know how to handle that. It is very frustrating though and very stressful. I will appreciate any possible help and advise I can get from you guys!
Than you in advance and 73 de SV3AUW Takis

I guess you must have submitted a full adif of your log not just those eligible for the award as required?

When submitting an ADIF file for an award, filter it before you export it in the QSO manager to ensure it only contains entries eligible for the award.

The only time an award reference is added to the QSO data automatically is if the award ref is in a cluster spot that has been clicked, otherwise you must select the award reference from the awards tab as detailed in our user guide.

The IOTA list of IOTA references is provided by IOTA and automatically updated at the time intervals selected in the Program Configuration.

Hi Terry and thanks for your expertise reply.
I am using the UltimateAAC almost every morning to upload my yesterday QSO's. Judging by the time it takes, it uploads only the new ones. Forgot to mention that I use solely WSJT- X aka FT8 digi mode.
So my morning ritual goes like, upload to Log4OM the .adi from the WSJT directory -->upload then to E-QSL --> to LoTW and --> to Clublog.
Then I start the UAAC app which in turn asks me from where to find and process my qso's. That is my Log4OM V2(*.SQLite) file. If a qso is marked as IOTA or SOTA or whatever it has nothing to do with me because I am not correcting nor manipulating my QSO list. Straight IN-Straight OUT.
That way and using only the Log4OM logger I have win tens of thousands of Awards. Now this, Jesus!
I will bother you with another example Terry and I hope you don't mind.
TA7OYG qso at 4/1/21 on 80m. At the Award Refs I see that he is a member or he has worked from IOTA@AS-154 (AS-154 Black Sea Coast East Group) .It doesn't seems like an Island, the Award Refs shows him as one. Is there an easy way to tell who-is-who in cases like that or shall I quit from chasing this particular award.I am pretty much confused and it is my honesty and gentlemanship under question and that is something that really pisses me off (pardon my French)

The list from IOTA just shows what Islands he might operate from, not that he has or is operating from that island.

YOU must ascertain if he is on an island either by asking him, checking him on QRZ/HamQTH or looking at the maps.

Even in the example of what could seem a definite island like GU3??? this could be an operator on Guernsey or Sark Islands so YOU must check and then select.

No logging program on the face of this earth can know what island a call might be on unless there a single island call sign like GJ3??? (EU-116) Isle of Man but even though there is only one IOTA ref for this entity there are still two possible entries in the sub group (Isle of Man & Calf of Man)

Check out how many possible islands a guy from Canada or the USA could be on! Some user intervention is required in any software to record the finer points of awards.

Awards like DXCC are easy because they all rely on a Prefix or DXCC number, state or county to qualify for an award its a different ball game when you get into the specialist areas like Lighthouses, castles, Islands etc.

You might consider setting up WSJT to work properly with Log4OM using the UDP method described in our user guide, the method that you use is unwieldy and can cause many inaccuracies. When set up properly logging from WSJS to Log4OM is automatic and so is the upload to Clublog, eQSL, QRX and LOTW (LOTW on program close) and the data not recorded in the WSJT ADIF file is automatically updated by Log4OM.

Sure Terry, you are right to the tit.
Al of your advises are valuable to and I intend to follow. One thing though I might not. Follow the IOTA Awards and check every time before submitting my log for anomalies or accidental false logins of the operators. To fussy for me to sent 200 e-mails asking my corespondents if they or if not were at an Island when we had that contact. I am just not going to do it and I will withdraw from that Award. That tens of 100's Awards, in jpg form I have, there are some 6Gb of space on my Disk. I can decorate a mansion, walls and seilling should I decide to print them! I won't miss some Islands, not at all!
Though I am a long standing user of the Log4OM fame, I am not sure how can I match all these functions, auto uploads and the like, together. I am "R.T.F.M."ing and I believe that eventually I will achieve it!
Terry, thank you very much for your advise and your friendly approach to my issue.
I wish you all the best for your goals.
