Excellent past performance for no pay means that none should be forthcoming 8-) .

Guy,
The point being missed, I'll try to explain.

We all do this as friends involved in a "hobby", in our spare time and with the Holidays starting, time becomes a premium. We do the best we can.

Plus, Lele works full time, trying to raise a family and satisfy the Log4OM users, we all owe him our thanks and appreciation.

You even mentioned that this issue is not of great importance. It will be addressed in due course.

Wish you the best for the Holidays!

Chuck,

I have been using Log4OM for quite a while and know what level of support is the norm. If you check out Lele's post, he said he would check it out when he got home, giving the impression that he would look into it and get back to me - that was 2.5 weeks ago. He did not say the issue would be sorted out as he had not been able to reproduce it - that was what he would check when he got home. I know I said that the issue was not of great importance, but I did not intend that to mean I wanted it ignoring ad infinitum. When I do pro bono work, I do not lower my standards or service levels, if anything, the opposite is true. I also do it in addition to my paid employment and not instead of it.

Whilst fully agreeing with your last post, it is not a good idea to get people used to faultless and fast support and then stop doing that. When I say I will contact one of my patients, I *always* do, even if it is to explain that there will be a delay. So few people do that. Ignoring 'any news yet?' is not a smart way to handle things - even if it is to say one will have news in even 2 months - I would have been quite happy with that.

In short, ignoring people seems to be the thing that annoys customers the most in many of the support forums that I frequent, irrespective of the cost of a product. Delays are quite acceptable as long as people are kept in the loop. Log4OM is an amazing piece of software and its best advert is it's customers (which we are even if it is freeware) and keeping them happy is important. It takes zero effort to keep customers happy. This was a major issue in one of the hardware forums that I frequent recently and the company concerned realised that its customers were correct in this regard.

I shall only respond further in this thread if there are any postings in relation to the original issue. I am more than happy to further discuss the OT issues off forum :) .

Best wishes,

Guy

Guy,

When Lele first replied to you he was under the impression that it was the normal recent QSO window that did not refresh, I subsequently pointed out to him that it only effected the 'Detached' recent QSO window and confirmed that I could replicate the bug.

The following day Lele asked me to Alpha test a change to the detached window which I did and confirmed that it now refreshed OK for me. Although I cannot find record of this in Mantis I am fairly sure the issue is fixed for the next release.

I only noticed your recent postings this morning because, as already noted elsewhere, I am very busy building the new user guide Wiki and cant check this forum as often as I would like.

In the past you have contacted me direct for assistance and I believe it has always been forthcoming? so please if you are not receiving the level of support that you expect from our software just email me and I will try to help. I am sure that you agree that this is just a very minor issue and it should not provoke any bad feeling or detrimental comments?

All members of the team try to provide a good level of support but occasionally the pressures of life intervene, and we hope our users understand this and make allowances!

Log4om is free software developed by volunteers that feely devote many hours to its development, it is not a business and as such different rules apply, so comparing the user support from a free program to the "After sales service" of your dental practice is unfair.

Hi Terry,

1) Though I have contacted you directly in the past, it do not think it fair on you to do so. I avoid using this method of contact where possible.

2) Regarding your last paragraph; I only mentioned my free work as the excuse that because something is free a lower level of service or performance should be expected just does not wash with me - it is such a lame excuse. I do not see why my free-in-my-own-time work example is not as good as yours anyway - it is both free and in our own time. Just because what I do in my free time and my remunerative employment is the same thing does not make the 'free time' reasoning any less valid at all.
If that was the case we would all abandon Log4OM and open our wallets and pay for a 'better' product - the fact that Log4OM is such a good product shoots that don't-expect-too-much-it's-freeware excuse firmly in the foot. I just wish those involved with freeware would stop making this poor excuse. I only mentioned it to Chuck as excellent (non-freeware according to your reasoning) levels of support had been provided in the past on many occasions and an obvious fall in standards without giving any reason* was most evident.

*If only I had been notified that the bug was confirmed - a 10 second posting or email it would have been if that - so much of all of our time would have been saved - for me by bumping the thread, replying to Chuck, replying to your last email (always a pleasure to hear from you**) and for you by writing your last email (I'm sure it took longer than 10 secs, hi hi).

** In fact, I had noticed that you had not posted for a while and my first thought was that you were ill and I contacted Lele directly to see that that was not the case. He advised me that you were on holiday.

Regards

Guy

PS As the bug has been confirmed, I think this thread can be considered closed.
