QRZ.com XML subscription

Post by G4DWV »

I asked on QRZ.com what more does the XML subscription bring to the table. Their answer basically said that it does what the free service does.

I thought it best to carry on my digging here as it would not do for QRZ.com to realise that their XML does nothing more than the free lookup does 8-) .

So my question is basically to try to find out what more does the subscription do over the free service. Can anybody help?

Best wishes and full health for 2016, plus a few extra shekels for ham radio treats ;) .

Well I am flabbergasted that anyone at QRZ would be so ill informed to make a comment like that!

Forgetting any other additional features provided by an xml subscription, these are the extra features you can enjoy in Log4OM with and XML subscription.

1. Full lookup information when entering a call sign - e.g. As a ham member you don't even get the grid reference

2. Use of the API Key to allow automatic real time upload to your QRZ logbook

Just make sure that you choose the correct xml subscription, last time I looked it was about US$ 30.00 PA

You could of course say screw them and subscribe to HamQTH or QRZCQ both of which are free and provide full lookup data

Hi Terry,

Re point 1 in your answer, as far as I can see, that is what the free lookup seems to do. It is this point that I am puzzled about. The XML sub is not cheap and I am just trying to see what I would get for it that would be of current benefit to me. Presently, I am just interested in the ability for the auto filling of log fields and the free service seems to do that FB, so much so I wonder how it could be improved.

I do not have any interest at all in uploading my log at all at the present.

Very best wishes to you, my fellow forum members and the Log4OM team for 2016. I wish you all a happy and healthy new year with enough spare shekels for ham radio treats.

Cheers

Guy

Try HamQTH or QRZCQ.
The first is the one i'm currently using all the day.

If locator is shown with a GREEN color, this information comes from external source (QRZ or Others).
If background is WHITE, the information is related to the COUNTRY CENTER, retrieved from our database
