The problem seems to be with the document archive folder. In my case it is located at F:\log4om\ . I was monitoring the computer performance and when the program falls over drive F becomes 100% busy. Further investigation shows that if I try to move F:\log4om\ to another drive the pc halts, and if I try to defrag the drive the process halts at 48% ( I'm guessing this is when it reaches the archive folder). However I have renamed the folder to #log4om, replaced it with an empty folder named log4om and QSO editing works ok. Any thoughts?

Yes, time to make a backup of your sensitive data.
Download a SMART check software and perform a check on your disk.

Now resolved. chkdsk repaired the corrupted file, and a health check of the drive showed all was ok, but will back up regularly just in case.
