Not Responding and keyboard delays are serious

Post by W4GHV »

I have a 4GHz, 16GB memory, Windows 10 PC and am having a horrible time with the program choking and the keyboard entry stopping (as long as 8 seconds) while entering a callsign.

I have a lot of apps running and am using task manager to see who the hog is. Most usually are at 10%.

Log4OM uses 45% of the CPU just editing a callsign entry!
The CPU spends a lot of time bouncing to 100%, however memory is NEVER full. It is a AMD A10-6700 4 core

I have looked into overclocking or upgrading my nice 23" touch screen HP and there are no options.

I will continue using task manager to get some ideas and perhaps off load the web browser Vivaldi to another small computer.

I have about 16,000 calls in my log, but have set the display to 100.
My log is on a local Google drive which syncs to the cloud image.

I know this is a lot to digest, so my only question is:

What steps can I take within Log4OM to speed it up?

Perhaps a toggle (or a 30 second DELAY) to turn off QRZ, award checking, or the internet when it is down.

It is impossible to enter a call sign and then go to the comments section to enter info without a program choke or a delay.

I may temporarily return to my N3FJP logger to see how it does.

Hi,
the amount of checks performed by Log4OM is really big (and also on cluster info) and that's a problem.
Many features users requests are requiring roundtrips to database, also for some less important features but "hey, that feat is missing, my old logger did that!" (forgetting that the old logger didn't to a couple of other things we try to do)
I'm now running a new "alpha" version that relies on database rather than in-memory for clublog, CTY.DAT and FCC data. That could be slower on disk but save some memory, even if memory seems not your issue.

Some questions:
Did you have any issue with your internet connection? hiccups or similar?
The cluster is connected? to what server? it's a skimmer?
can you create a "SUPPORT REQUEST" in log4om help menu and send me the file (lele (at) pisto (dot) it)?
I'll check your config and how performs on my PC to identify potential glitches.

Thanks

You dont state what the version number of Log4OM is, please check Help/about to find out and let us know

You posted in the version 1 section of the forum but I suspect your using version 2

Thanks for the replies. Yes version 2 here.
I'll do some more experimenting with minimal background apps and watching the taskmanager to gather more info about it.

I forgot to check the status of the cluster and will do that.

I'm a bit bothered that the Belarc advisor says the A10-6700 is 2 cores, but the CPU specs say 4

The internet access/speed has been very good lately.

I heard there was an option to toggle off some of the features, like QRZ, etc. Where is it?

I'll submit a support report after experimenting some more.

Thanks again.

With only Omnirig and Log4OM running, there is a 5 second delay after entering the call sign before you can add something to the comments.
When I edit a record when I save/exit I get a Not Responding error.
It also appeared briefly in another instance.
The CPU loading never reached 100%

SOLVED, I think!
Using MSCONFIG and Windows10 Manager I deleted a lot of baggage.
FTP server, one drive, dropbox and lots more I think are unneeded.
So far, ALL IS WELL.

Thanks for the comments.

Now when is my next contest? :)
