Contest Logging

Post by G4KUD »

Hi all,
I have my system running great but i want to get better at operating in contests, I am using Log4OMv2, WSJT-x and Gridtracker and they work together great, my question is can i use Contest logging in Log4OM2? I have just run a little test of my own using the Contest settings created a 20 min test got some contacts in FT4, but they didn't show up in the contest log window. Can someone please guide me to the correct place in the manual or instruct me what other settings i need to use. I do not want to use N1MM as it seems to take over all control, and that's the trouble. I have my setup running lovely why do i want to change it.
Please help.
Regards

Barry, we are talking about this and as I explained the issue I started having some questions myself.

What would be the purpose of even running Log4OM in contest mode if you are using 3rd party incoming connections to make contacts?

You might have a valid reason but I am not sure what it would be? The contest mode was designed for logging directly and not having DUPs. That really does not apply if you are running WJST.

If there is a need we can evaluate it for future enhancements. But currently it really was not designed to run in contest mode using QSO's coming from another program.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for coming back to me, I think people are missing my point. I run Log4OM2 for logging and Gridtracker for check the pattern of grids and my antenna is radiating which is quiet interesting. I run WSJT-x for my FT4 & FT8 operations, WSJT-x is very limited to the contest templates you can use and if you don't use one of theirs you don't get a contest log (I keep losing points due to having to recheck every QSO), Log4OM2 has many contest templates which seem to be really great i have added one to my "contest.csv" which is for the RSGB FT4 monthly sprints.
when i test it by creating a short Test it doesn't fill in the contacts in the contest window. Am i doing something wrong or isn't the contest format not setup correctly, I want to use Log4OM2 for contesting as all of my systems are running great. i do not want use N1MM as it has to take control of everything.
It would be great to solve this problem i have before the next contest on the 22nd May 2023.

Many thanks and Regards

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. But Log4OM was not originally designed for the function you desire. It was designed to be the main interface for contesting and adding contacts in the Log4OM contest interface.

You can add your request to the feature suggestions forum if you like.
