world clock time

Post by ve3wej »

I can view the utc clock, and the world clock.

the utc clock shows utc and local which is correct ( currently 20:21utc/16:21 loc. BUT, at the same time the world clock states 8:21/ and I do not see a setting for time zone that the world (geo )clock is using

my computer time is currently ( at typing) 6:24 ( utc -5 Eastern), then adjusted to daylight saving time.

this time is correct.

utc clock shows 22:24 and 18:24, which is correct 18:24 = 6:24+12 hours ( for p.m.)

22:24 is 4 hours added due to utc shift, and DST

so where else would the "world Clock" grab its time from, that would make it different that would cause world clock to show 10:24:00 ( off by the 12 hours, I see, so it is reporting am not pm local, or not selecting my time zone

Dave,

Are you using a routine on your PC to control your PC's time/clock? Such as Dimension 4?

If you are that is why you have the huge variance in the time.

I was using the Dimension 4 time routine and it disables the automatic synching of the PC for clock control.

I disabled the Dimension 4 routine and made sure the Windows O/S time function was back in control and synching properly.

Once I did that the two clocks matched up as one would expect.

Many OMs use an APP such as Dimension 4 to tighten up their time control for the sake of (hopefully) more positive connections when running FT8 / FT4, etc..

I've found it actually doesn't make any huge difference whether I used such an APP or not. So I disabled mine and it is one less routine running on my laptop that way.
