Re: Log4OM review : ADIF issue SOLVED

Post by F6DFZ »

Hi to the group,

I would like to thanks Terry for its expertise and kindness.

ADIF files created by different software are not as standard as you would think.
First, mine span more than 40 years as I had the patience to enter in Log-EQF, then Win-EQF, all my contacts since I get my ham ticket.
Some QSO were lacking the reference to the DXCC number.
Some entries had a false country, specially ZK1.
More weird, all reports with signals over S9 were considered as contest and not displayed in the right column in Log4OM.

Thanks to Terry, and to the powerful tools of Log4OM, it had been possible to correct and modify my ADIF file to make it works correctly with Log4OM, displays the right DXCC and LOTW scores, etc...

Thanks for the very helpful Log4OM team.

Best regards.

This button could be labeled "End Now" for example and would set the End of the QSO to the time when this button has been pressed.
An even quicker solution would be a right click on the QSO in the F8 column. If you do so, a menu appears with items. After the last item (Edit QSO with ...), just add a new item : End QSO with ...

This (F8) is a "passive" list that reads latest records in database.
Even if i can (dunno how at this time) add an "end button" that works in the way you request there will be a problem with all other Log4OM functions.
As example, QRZ.COM/HAMQTH/CLUBLOG/HRDLOG/EQSL are uploaded to external services on QSO save, so editing the QSO at later time will not upload those services...

I think there could be another way to achieve that, but we need a multiple qso logging screen that is not implemented at this time.
I still think that net control could be a way, even improved or updated... :)

Hi Daniele,

I understand your point and the problems induced by the real time recording of QSO.

However, as long as you do some ragchewing, you have stations coming in the QSO, leaving the QSO, new one coming in the QSO and so on, and you need a way to simply and quickly set the end time for a station leaving the QSO.
For example with Win-EQF, the F3 button lists the latest stations, and a F1 press on a station sets the end time.

The Net Control utility could be barely usable as long as you could get the same information in real time about name, qth, etc, from former contacts or from lockup, as from the main logging screen.
I write barely because when you begin a QSO you don't know if other stations will come in, and you don't know if you have to log on the main screen or on the Net Control screen.

In the External Logs Settings, you have boxes to check if you want automatic upload on new QSO. A warning could be set to tell the users that automatic upload is incompatible with manual setting of end time.

I believe this point is of importance for a lot of Log4OM users and hope you could find a solution.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Hi Daniele,

I must add that if you have multiple OM's inside a QSO, coming and going, and if you are precise, you will have, whatever method you use, to modify the end time manually, using the editing function, and I believe a lot of users are doing so.
If we can edit and modify the end time of a QSO in Log4OM, it's because you saw during the conception of this wonderful software that it was indispensable, even if this has an impact on real time logging to external logs.

A better, quicker, simpler method is only a way to better ergonomics, and will only improve to the quite cumbersome actual method.

i'm probably missing the point, but the "NET CONTROL" system will allow you to add calls on the fly to the "active" list, and removing them from the current QSO list will save the QSO with the time of the drag out.

Can be useful for your needs, while i'm thinking something (and probably move it to something new in V2)
