Confirmed/Verifed/Validated ??

Post by w1ksz »

I am confused why my DXCC Stats are a sea of colors. I have 340 Confirmed (DXCC confirmed),
why are they showing up as Confirmed or Verified/Validated.

Shouldn't they all be one ?? If not, how do I make them so ?

Right now to get a total Confirmed I need to add two numbers.

Confirmed = A paper QSL was submitted to ARRL and confirmed

Validated = this is an LOTW confirmation

OK, but having two sets of "Confirmed" statistics is not what I would like to see.
Confirmed or Verified/Validated, they still count as DXCC Credits. If you need to
keep it this way, how about a third class ... ie: DXCC Credits ??

Confirmed means you have received a QSL card from the other station. It does not mean "submitted to ARRL".

And, if you update the award status of each QSO, the credits will be correct.

Hi Dick,

I have been working on just the issue you face. Let me see if I can shed some light on it.

In the Statistics and Awards window of Log4OM, Awards/DXCC tab, it shows W (worked stations), C (Confirmed by receiving QSL card), V (Validated by card checker or LotW) and G (Credit Granted by applying for DXCC credit with ARRL). If you are not seeing any G status - Credit Granted, then that information was not imported into Log4OM from your other logging program. If you have 340 credits towards DXCC Mixed, then you should see 340 entities with G, and the statistics under DXCC Mixed should be Credit Granted 340/340.

This is the situation which I was dealing with. You may know all this, so if you do forgive me, but there is a way to obtain a Credit Granted download from ARRL, DXCC/LotW website. That is great, but as of right now, there is no way to import that file into Log4OM, well, you can but the Credit Granted information will not be updated. The issue is a lack of ADIF standards on this DXCC export and some other issues with incomplete information on older QSL's in the DXCC database - such as missing modes and incorrect dates.

I have worked out logic to deals with these issues and have written a program which will import the DXCC Credit Granted file into Log4OM and will update the Credit Granted status within Log4OM, so that your credit granted status is reflected in the Statistics and Awards window. I have tested this program with my Log4OM installation and several friends installations and all has gone well. I have made the logic available to Daniele and he is planning on incorporating it into Log4OM at some future time.

In the meantime, if you are interested, send me a PM and I can explain this program in more detail and make it available to you if you would like to give it a try.

Once your Credit Granted status is updated, instead of a seeing a "sea of colors", you should see mostly Blue squares with a G in it.

Note: This particular problem comes about when users convert from another logging program or users with extensive DXCC activity who relied on DXCC records and LotW records and are just recently converting to Log4OM. Those who have been using Log4Om for a while and get their Credit Granted from within the LotW system do get their Credit Granted status updated within LofW downloads for QSL's which are verified by LotW.

I hope this helps.

This is what comes about when folks try to complicate the world of DXCC, far
more than it needs to be.

In reality, there are three conditions:

W - Worked
Co - Confirmed, either by paper QSL Card or LoTW, makes no difference which
Cr - Credited to your DXCC Award

Anything more than that results in added complication that is not necessary for
the DXCC Program. If one wants to get complicated, then by all means let them
have at it, BUT, do provide a means for the User to UNcomplicate things.

Hi Dick,

So with your choice of three statuses, how would you characterize a card received (confirmed), but which is now card checked by an ARRL card checker? Just curious.

It's confirmed and will be credited as soon as the form gets to the Desk.
No different than mailing the Cards in yourself, just adds another step
to the process.

The bottom line is that Log4om conforms to the ADIF standard which has various levels of QSL status for paper QSL's and LOTW

Individual users have different views on this and of course their own pet requirements, it is up to each individual to use this standardised format as best suits him/her

We will continue to conform to this internationally agreed standard in line with most other front line logging programs to insure the correct exchange of data.

As you have encountered with your old logging program not all developers keep the ADIF standard complient with the latest ADIF version and this results in the sort of issues that you are currently experiencing.

This lack of compliance with the latest format of ADIF by some developers can be for a variety of reasons, from the developer not being able to implement the changes due to the structure of his software to the software no longer being developed, as is the case apparently with DXBase which I notice has nor been updated since about 2007!

We are working with Doug on a method of addressing these shortcomings in the ADIF data exported from other software but meanwhile I suggest that you take advantage of Dougs kind offer
