Hamlib provide some features that are useful if you work with a remote radio. Those features could not be used with Omnirig.
It's not faulty, it works pretty well for the supported rigs and it's the only actively developed CAT software on the scene.
About "retry", Hamlib stops calling if the radio doesn't answer. I can force Hamlib polling by calling the start function once the radio is connected, but this is an overhead that frankly speaking is not necessary, because it's better to know that the CAT is not working, and fix the problem before retrying, than having a software continuously polling a non-responding COM port.

Oh heck yes! Omnirig works fantastic. Both VFO-A and B and splits operation is displayed. Only VFO-A with himlib. Thank you for the push.
