fixed and portable logging and online uploads

I'm just trying to get my head around logging at home and portable.
I know what to do on Log4OM for the logging, as I understand it, I edit my call and locator etc to reflect when I am portable, yes?
UPDATE: And I would most wisely do this with a new profile as shown on page 157 of guide?
And I do this on what I would call my main Log4OM log?
Or do I make a new portable Log4OM log?
When I want to upload my log to the likes of qrz.com etc, how does that deal with the /P entries?
Do I need to create a /P profile (which I have done on qrz.com) and if I do that, will my portable QSOs be uploaded to that profile by Log4OM?
I want to get this right while there are only very few contacts to deal with!

I would use a separate profile but log to the same main database, all of the portable QSO's would be correctly recorded as station Call sign and operator call sign as /P so easily filtered for sending paper QSL's but included in your awards statistics.

In the /P profile enter the /P QRZ, eQSL, LOTW, HamQTH & HRDLog user names, passwords and nicknames information applicable to the /P on line accounts.
I store my logbook database on Google Drive and I have GD installed on all of my machines with Log4OM on all machines using the same GD Log4OM database. That way if I am out portable using my Lynx Windows 8 tablet and log QSO's or mobile with my Laptop which has the same set up, as soon as I get home and these devices are turned on the database synchronises on all machines.

Thanks terry, that sounds straight forward enough.
Edit: checking on qrz.com it seems I'll need a separate login setup for the portable call rather than one administered by my main call for the separate details to put into log4om, yes?

Not sure about QRZ but possibly so

Now I have my database (hopefully!) sorted via dropbox, I'm back on this.
In the settings/station info box I can name the profile and put all the data in, and I am saving that.
I have done this for
Home
then again for a portable op
Portable Westhope Common
and changing the appropriate fields.
But I cannot find a way of switching between the two? I can see on tab one of settings my config is now prefixed by the portable name, and was before that prefixed by Home.
Should I be using clone config?
But if I do that, and I change something in one of them, I will have to remember to do the same in the other(s)?

You are overlooking the "make active" button, so
Select the required profile
Click make active
Click save
Restart Log4OM
Now you are using the selected config!
However I don't do it that way!
The only time I create a new profile is for my special event stations, for all other situations I use my normal G4POP profile
When I am out portable I change the station and operator call signs to G4POP/P and the locator etc - When I return home I change the details back
Same if I was /MM or /A or /M
I use the same database and Internet upload settings for Clublog, LOTW, HamQTH, HRDLog.net, eQSL and QRZ
Because of the powerful sort facilities in Log4om I can select the /P events easily for sending QSL cards etc

But make active applies to config.
profile=config then?
<goes to fiddle>
I have just cloned the config and now have a Home and a Portable one, and they do as I expect.
The confusion is for me that on the Station tab of settings the description is called Profile Description, but that seems to be the config description.
I was looking for profiles within the one configuration.
Now I know that's not the case, I understand.
It does mean cloning the config can leave me with outdated configs if I decide to change something on the main one down the line, but saves me typing in (or remembering to type in!) each time as you are doing.

So if I go to your qrz.com log page, the list of stations you have worked could equally contain stations you worked at home, portable or mobile etc?
I understand you can filter in the Log4OM database to separate ones(home/portable/mobile), but they are all grouped together on the online logs like qrz.com?

If you want them separate with the online logbooks then the only possibility is completely separate profiles and logbooks in Log4om
Why do you need them separate online?

I'm not sure I do really. I'm sounding out the options to make sure I go down the right path at my beginning, and finding out what people do.
If I have to pay for a subscription for example, I'm certainly not keen on paying for one for home callsign and one for a portable callsign. Especially as I will be operating as GW1YBB/P too, so there's 3 for a start.
It looks to me, to suit my preferred way of working, I will have:
1. One database, sync'd via dropbox, that my base PC and any mobile PCs will both use.
2. I will (my preference) create a cloned config from the Home config and name it to suit for portable sites, as it's likely I'll use them a few times, some regularly perhaps.
I just choose the correct config for the working location and al the prefixes and suffixes wil be ready, and location details etc.
3.All my contacts go into the one database (dropboxed) and from that I would upload to one profile per site of the online logbooks like qrz.com etc. All my home, my G1YBB/P, and GW1YBB/P contacts will appear listed together in those online log books.
4. I'm able to isolate /P or GW/P calls by date or suffix etc at will within Log4OM.
Does that sound sensible and feasible?
