Restoring database

I did a search on restoring, but nothing hit home. I had a disaster and my computer drive is gone. But I had been saving files to an USB drive. I have a very bad feeling I didn't back up the right stuff. There were two files, one was a zip file with Communcor cofig, modellistuser, regex filters, view config.smallqso...and a larger file with a number in front...Log4omdatabase. I tried to go to file and open database but nothing I did would restore. Is this stuff lost? Need I start over, It's about three months of QSO's. Thank so much for Log4om, your support and your commitment to ham radio.

Do a search looking for a file with an extension of .sqlite

Also, search for a .adi file which is the ADIF backup which can be imported to your database.

This will be the backup for your database.

Good luck!

A quick search of this forum reveals many posts regarding backups and how to restore them but the most relevant for you is probably this one........

Maybe you all could tell what I did wrong..and what I did right. I searched all over and the only SQL was recent.. I discovered that the database was being saved as an ADI File. I googled this and found I could view it with wordpad. Ok...Well here I have an ADI file and I do know you can export these so they can be read by other programs. So what I did was went to File (in LOG4OM) and found import ADI file...voila...I think I have it. I imported 260 QSO's! I'm a happy camper until I realize that they are in "Recent QSO's". Did I do something wrong? And if I did, how do I fix it? Thanks for your patience, kindness and consideration.

PS I really enjoy using Log4OM with PSK31, CW and SSB.

"Recent QSOs" is your logbook being displayed. It is normal.

Marc,

It sounds like you were successful in restoring your Log4om log file. Is 260 qso about the right number of QSO's you had previously in Log4OM? If restored properly, they should appear in the Recent QSO (F8) tab. It is called Recent QSO's but really is all of your qso's until you exceed the Display Limit set in the lower right corner of the Recent QSO tab pane. Of course, you can adjust that display limit to see more or all of your QSO's when you exceed that limit.

This next advice applies to everyone who is less than diligent about making computer backups of your valuable data. i.e. Everyone!
Check out page 159 of the Log4OM User Guide for information to using one of the cloud storage facilities for storing an automatic backup copy of your Log4OM log. It describes using Dropbox, however my personal favorite is Google Drive. Microsoft also has their own version. When set up, your log is still on your computer, but whenever a change is made to your log, it is automatically updated in the cloud storage. The bonus is that you can then access your log from another computer if need be. And if the inevitable strikes, and your hard drive goes kaput, you have a complete and current backup available. Good stuff.

Thank you Doug...Thank you all, I only started using the program in September....I am a "born again" ham. Let my gen license expire in 1992...then in 2016 decided it was time to get back in! So in a way I am a newbie. Thanks so much for the kind and gentle help.

Log4OM exports backup in ADIF in order to let users being able to have the FULL database at their hands.
Just in case you need to move to another software because you are not satisfied by Log4OM, there are no "barriers" on exit by us.

Obviously i hope everyone will stay and more join the Group :)
