Zvi,
Your question is what?
You want the passwords all hidden or not hidden or maybe an option to "un-hide" them?

In general it is bad practice to show the cleartext passwords in software incl. in config files like the config.json

Roland,
Understand completely. My question to Zvi was looking for additional input from him as to options he might consider a good practice for consideration.
FYI - we have it on our list, but additional input is always welcome.

We can hide them.
But usually we have users that are moving from one version to another or moving their config to another system that doesn't remember their password anymore...
it's an hard tradeoff...

From my experience people tend to re-use their passwords, one single password for everything. One password breach leads to many problems...
If they forget their password, they deserve to go through password recovery process for that particular service. Just my two cents...

Could you make it an option to have them hidden or not? In my case, it isn't a matter of forgetting passwords, but sometimes I find it useful to see what I have typed into the password field.
