Log4OM

Log4OM is a great program but I feel it hasn't been designed with manual logging in mind. I still keep a paper logbook and write in there after a QSO. Later on I will then enter the QSOs in Log4OM. I am finding this process very cumbersome in v2. I did it in v1 and it was OK but a little clumsy. I'm hoping I'm just being stupid and there is an easier way to do this.

In v2 I've locked start and end times by clicking the padlocks. After I enter the callsign I hit tab and can enter the signal report. Hit Tab and enter the other report. I then hit tab again to be taken to the date. As soon as I enter the two digits of the day it says "Searching..." and then takes the focus back to the callsign field. It does this for every field I change in the start time. So entering the start and end times is quite a laborious process.

After I have entered the end time, when I hit tab I'd like it to take me to the frequency. The other information has, usually, been filled in for me so the next thing for me to enter is the frequency.

It would also be nice if the end time defaulted to the same as the start time since a QSO cannot end before it began!

The other thing I am finding regarding manual entry is assumptions that the call sign you enter as your QSO is located in that spot. As a SOTA activator I often times encounter operators that are mobile.

For example, I am doing a SOTA activation on a summit in Washington state (W7W/WE-060). A truck driver VE9TJR from Ontario, Canada is driving through WA state on his way to California. I make a QSO with him which counts towards my SOTA activation.

I get home to manually update my electronic log using Log4OM. When I manually enter his QSO, the way it looks to me in the system is that he wwas at a station in Canada. I have not figured out how to tell the system that when I talked with him he was in WA, so now Log4OM thinks I have made a QSO to Canada when I haven't. I tried to manually change the ITU and CQ zone but the pull downs have fixed entries in them for Canada. I was able to remove the awards references for Canada.

If the VE9 station was operating in the USA he would have HAD TO use a prefix like K/VE9???. The prefix wind automatically place him in the States in Log4om

Same as if I come to your country I would have to sign K/G4POP

I think that rule may be loosely followed here in the pacific northwest. But I get your point that I need to correctly denote it in Log4OM, so that makes sense to me.

If I edit that QSO and change the entry to K/VE9TJR, should the DxCC, ITU and CQ zones now be something I can edit? I would like to set ITU 6 and CQ 3 which is where I made the contact. Not sure if I can set DXCC which is set to 1. How do I override the pull downs that exist based on his Canadian call sign? Do I need to put /P on the end to denote that he was a mobile truck operator?
