N1MM setup

So reading the manual it talks about removing the CAT control to connect to N1MM. Is that right?
I really do not want to do that and would rather have it work similar to what I had in V1.
I would like to just send QSOs to Log4OM automatically and nothing else and want to keep OmniRig connected.
Did I misunderstand?
I tried broadcasting UDP on 12060 from N1MM and setting up an inbound N1MM message on Log4OM but that did not work.
What am I missing
