I noticed that backup creation by menu or closing the program itself requires some time and lock the application.

Also in the opening phase htere is time delay

is there any suggestion or improuvement to reduce this time ?

I am using sqlite and about 68000 qsos logged

That should be OK Don, 68000 is well within the capabilities of SQLite.

Where is the backup file located exactly?

when you close Log4OM it will:

1) close all existing connections to external softwares
2) saving configuration and form positions
3) making a FULL ADIF backup of the Whole database.
4) clean some rubbish, variables, timers

it should not take more than 4-5 seconds to make an ADIF with 68.000 QSO (it's really faster compared with other softwares i've tried), but you can check this by disabling flag from "auto backup on closing" in Settings 1 screen, and check if time will greatly reduce. If yes, the time is related to backup time.

You can even switch to "manual" backups, pressing the "red cross" button in the top icon bar when you need to backup your data.
It will force a backup/secondary backup

by the way, if i remember correctly, the backup is made 2 times, one for main and one for secondary, for security purposes (if the first one fails i will not copy a missing/corrupted database to the secondary one)

I will do a check and will have a look to the log too where I should see some elapsed time

I have disabled the automatic backup on closure and now closing is faster as global result

let say that I have, on a XP pc witj 3 gb and a low performance HDD, the ratio i 1 (no backup) to 5 (with backup) [5 secs to 25 secs]

log contains 68000 records

20 seconds for 65000 QSO is REALLY slow... can you try making backup into an USB drive to see performances?

with a usb key as bakup the time delay is really worst (something less then 3 times more)

consider that the adif file created occupies 52.890 K, (so it is not so small).

are you sure that a zip file of the .SQLITE file could not be a posssible alternative stategy for backup ?

and the .SQLlite file is 24 mega for 68000 qsos
