Auto Spotting on FT8?

Lately I’ve been working a lot of FT8. I’ve noticed that I am frequently getting pop up messages in LOG4OM saying “You’ve been spotted by <CALL>” These are occurring so often that I believe its an automatic feature of some software that people are using – or, is this built in to LOG4OM? No one seems to know where these spots originate. Any info would be appreciated.

You have an alert set in Log4om, see user guide

Bob,

I get the same thing when I operate FTxx modes.

I think it is related to a tic made in the WSJTx or JTDX Reporting/Logging tabs in their settings.

There is an option to enable PSK Reporting Spotting.

Check those two FTxx APPs and then untic that box and you might be good to go.

Log4OM will inform when you receive a spot from someone else.
Working with a reverse beacon cluster in FT8 will often result in seeing your callsign automatically "spotted" here.

That's because "normal" clusters are working in a different way from reverse beacon connected clusters. The ones you see are not self spots. Simply someone hear you and sends the message to a reverse beacon network that will then forward the info to a reverse beacon cluster.

Totally useless imho, as you can work who you can actually see on the FT8 software...

So enabling "PSK REPORTING" only works with the PSK REPORTING web site. These spots are way too numerous. I'm not rare DX and I'm getting almost continuous spots. I suspect that another logging program has an option to automatically send spots.

That would be my assumption also
