Log4OM 2.26.0 won't install - Windows 11

Post by ac5aa »

I am running 2.25.0 and after downloading 2.26.0 I have tried multiple times to install it but nothing happens. The "hourglass" shows for about 3 seconds then no further action. I have re-downloaded twice - no change. I have turned off my Norton Internet Security - no change. I have run the installer both as it exists, and as "administrator" - no change. I'm running out of things to try, so any help is appreciated. Configuration:
Dell XPS-8950
Intel 12th gen i7-12700
16 GB RAM
Windows 11 Home - 64-bit Ver 22H2

Or a broken download ? I have running Log4OM2 on my Dell Workstation (W10 Pro) and on my Huawei Smartbook D16 (W11 Home)
without any issues.

I have re-downloaded multiple times (4 or 5 now), and have stopped all firewalls and anti-viruses (Norton on both). No change in how it acts. Weirdly, 2.25.0 installed fine.

Have you looked into Windows Event Viewer? An app crash would normally leave some traces there. Running W11 Pro 22H2 here, but Log4OM portable. No need to run the installer.

Thanks for the tip - I see nothing in the Event Viewer, although I may not be looking in the right place. I just attempted to install again so I would have something current, and nothing shows up.

Question - I recently installed an older piece of software that required a certain .NET level to be installed, which I did - could it have been an older downlevel version that is now causing this problem? I have no idea how the various parts of Windows interact. Thanks all for your info so far - I suspect if I can't install the current level, it will continue to be a problem on newer ones as well.

Duane,

RE: NET levels ... I know that JTAlert needed a specific level of that program to be updated and this was over the past year or so.

Given that Lele has a notice on the Log4OM website that NET Framework 4.7.2 is required.

Here is the link with that data: https://www.log4om.com/download/

To see installed .NET versions, execute this in an admin cmd shell:

Code: Select all

reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP" /s
My Windows 11 22H2 (OS build 22621.1344) shows .NET version 4.8.09032, but also older 3.0 and 3.5 versions. Apparently they can coexist.

If I'm reading this correctly, looks like I have 4.0.30319 along with 4.8.09032. So, apparently it's not this. Here's what I see:

Duane, your .NET versions are OK. As a test, I ran the 2.26.0 installer:
- UAC dialogue
- select language
- accept license agreement
- select destination
Do you see any of these items? Could it be that your UAC window is minimized in the taskbar?
