One of my friends using Log4OM has once again lost his configuration file. When he opened Log4OM it was as if it was a new installation. This is the second time this has happened to this user. I've restored his QSO sqlite file, but I am faced with re-entering all his configuration information because there is NOT A GOOD CONFIGURATION file in the Backups folder.
All the xxxx_config.xml files in the LogOM/Backup folder are dated AFTER the issue occurred. I have reported this issue before, and I believe something needs to be done to save a good Config.xml file EACH time the program is shut down, as it does with the log backup adi file. If this IS supposed to be done, its not with this user. He is on 1.22.0 version.
Thanks,
Doug

Re: Lost configuration file
Doug, I know that this is not of much help right now, however, once you get your friends setup all working again, I suggest you make a copy of the config file and put it to a safe place, just in case this happens again.

Re: Lost configuration file
Hi John,
Yes, I thought I had done that the first time around, but could not find the backup file
. I have made a good back up this time around.
Additional info: Checking my system, it does appear that Log4OM is making a backup config.xml file each time I exit the program. But I am using beta version 1.23, so maybe that has been fixed in the beta version. But that is not being done in version 1.22 which my friend (brother in law) is using. Or is there some other condition preventing backup config file from being created on my BinL's system?
Then there is the question of how is this happening in the first place, where Log4OM cannot find the config file and starts as a new configuration?
Thanks!
Doug

Re: Lost configuration file
Doug, I am running Version 1.22.0.0 and mine backs up my log and config file every time I close the program down. Well, I hope that the files it creates are backups. With mine, in the "Settings/Options/Settings 1" there are 2 areas to specify 'backup folder'. I have set that to be 2 different HDD's and I have also clicked in the tick box labeled "Auto backup on closing" Maybe your friend hasn't ticked that box...

PS, the files that get created are named (for example) 20150906200336_log.adi and 20150906200336_config.xml

Re: Lost configuration file
Just checked versions 1.21, 1.22 and the latest beta of 1.23 and all configuration backups are saved and when used to restore work 100%
Think your BiL issue is something like malware but certainly local to his computer

John,
Thanks for the suggestion. Double checked and my BiL has the checkbox checked for backup on close.
Terry,
one thing I have noticed in testing is that on his system, the only time a backup is made of the config.xml file on program exit is if there has been a change made to the configuration. That, along with the deletion of old files I believe has led to none being available. So what I have done is set up the optional secondary backup folder and check No delete. But, I don't think this should be necessary. If Daniele could check the code and see if he is deleting config files older than a certain date based on number of log backups, or deleting config files more than X number, X being set in Backup depth in Settings. I think what might be happening is the former. If this is the case, and no changes have been made to the settings for a while, you could end up with no back up of your original settings. Could this be possible??
Another possible cure would be to make a copy of the config.xml file regardless of whether there was any changes made since the last shutdown.
Thanks!
