Virtual serial port problem

Post by K0AY »

As described in the user manual, I downloaded the VSPE splitter. The only serial port I have is Com 3.
I set it up as Com3--->com 6. I start up L4OM and set OMNIRIG to Com 6. The CAT light turns green which is good. But when I start WSJT-X, the only port choice I have displayed is Com 3. If I read the instructions correctly, all my com devices should be accessed via Com 6.
Any suggestions?

Hi K0AY,

I have not had good luck with VSPE. Very finicky. Your best bet, IMHO, is to use OmniRig for CAT, then both Log4OM and WSJT-X can share OmniRig. just set WSJT-X, Settings, Radio tab, Rig = OmniRig Rig 1.

And if you have not setup JT-Alert to log into Log4OM, refer to the Log4OM manual, page 182, it describes how to integrate JT65 and JT Alert. It will also work with WSJT-X, which is what I use. Once setup, WSJT-X will follow along with the frequency and once a QSO is completed in WSJT-X, it will be updated to your Log4OM log. Life is good!

Hope that helps!

Thanks Doug! Using OMNI-RIG worked, although I had trouble with it in the past. Using a Signalink USB interface, one needs to use VOX as the interface. It seems to me that virtual serial ports should show up in device manager under Ports (COM & LPT) but I did not see it.

Thanks again.

Hi Art,

Glad OmniRig is working for you. As far as the PTT Method, I also use a SignaLink USB and in the WSJT-X Setttings, Radio Tab, for PTT Method I have CAT checked, and it works fine. This is with my IC-7600.
