How is DXCC Award for Band indicated?

Post by ac5aa »

Just starting the arduous task of reconciling all of my LoTW confirmations with the log and most of it appears to be mapped one for one except "Band". How is the DXCC Band marked so that a QSO shows the award for that parameter? In the list shown while editing in the QSO Archive, I see all the others (Phone, CW, Mixed, etc.) but not Band. What am I missing?

What band is not displaying your DXCC results?

Terry,
I'm trying to manually update the Log4OM database to reflect my DXCC status. It's a very tedious and painful process due to DX4WIN's abbreviated ADIF output. When I select a particular QSO to mark for the various DXCC validations, I see the mode values available to be checked (Mixed, Phone, CW, Digital) and DXCC Challenge. I don't see a band selection. So, for example, if I submitted a QSO only to gain band credit (I already have all the modes credited separately), how do I indicate that when updating the record?

Thanks for all your help.

Guess I don't understand what your trying to do.

Each QSO has a band and mode with it. It normally is set by the frequency the QSO was accomplished on.

You can edit each of them if you need too.

If your talking about the Award check boxes, there is no band as they are derived from each QSO and compiled when you select a band to be displayed in the awards section.

Thanks, Chuck - I understand what you're saying, but that doesn't address my example in the last post. Suppose I have submitted for credit a QSO that is *only* being submitted because it is a new band (I already have the mode, etc., awarded on different bands for that country.) And let's say it's confirmed via a QSL card, to keep the example simple. Now I'm ready to apply for band credit with this QSO - how do I mark it in Log4OM in the Awards tab since there is no slot for DXCC Band (or DXCC 12m)? I already have all the others checked off, so do I check one of them again just so Log4OM will pick that up and add the band?

I hope that makes it more clear. Thanks for your time and help.

Let's say you worked me on 30M CW and logged it and this a new one on 30. The QSO will be logged as indicated, 30 M CW.

Now you apply for this credit. You check the Submitted for DXCC Mixed and CW check box and when the credit is granted, you check the Granted for DXCC Mixed and CW check box. This will now show in the Awards section as a credit Granted for the U.S. on 30M and on CW and Mixed.

As I noted, the band is directly from the unique QSO and nothing for you to do regarding it.

Hope this explains it clearly.

Thanks Chuck - you described the process of using Log4OM to submit and then record a resulting award from a QSO. I'm fine with that. What I'm trying to do is "fix up" data that was imported from another logging program that did not export the award information. I have a number of QSO's that were awarded merely for band credit only - the country and mode were already awarded. I can find no way to show that the QSO was submitted only for band qualification. However, I think what I understand from your answers, and the way Log4OM is written, is that I should just check then for (perhaps) Mixed, [Mode] and Challenge. It doesn't really matter since the band will be included with the QSO data. I'm coming from a logger where these were all individually tracked, so I need to shake off that thinking. Let me know if I'm on the wrong track here!

Your on the right track now. Just get a listing of your credits and go through each. It's a pain in the you know where, but once done it's easy going forward.

By the way, do you have a LOTW account? If so download your credits from LOTW and LOG4OM will update them automatically. Much easier.

And that's where the problem is. I have a lot of credits from the 1990's where LoTW only keeps a date of 1/1/1990, for example (the year appears to track). So, those are the ones I'm attempting to update now. It is a major pain. I only had 60 in 1990, but in the following 10 years I had a couple hundred a year. Ugh!

I've worked with Doug, W7DRM a bit on this, and he's been very helpful, but barring any additional software help, I'm going to be plugging through these for a long time to come . . .

Thanks, Chuck.

This is one case where "software" can be of no help. A purely manual process as we can't read minds, yet!

You should be able to download all your credits from LOTW and one-by-one search, edit, check the correct award box for each QSO and be done with it.

One note of caution: run a back up every now and then so you don't have to start over if you mess something up. Nothing worse the a "Damn", I should have.

Cheers! ;)
