_user.xml files

Post by G4DWV »

Regarding the comment about User modified bandplan files (_user.xml) stopping the use of official files. I have several _user.xml files. What files do I need to delete/rename before installing the new release?

Hello Guy,

the following bandplan files have changes:

bandplan_r1
bandplan_dxcc221
bandplan_dxcc223
bandplan_dxcc230

Also the modelist_user can be deleted so the new modes like FT8 and T10 are now included.

But if you unsure make a copy of all your _user files to a save place before you delete ... ;) ;)

Hi Juergen,

Attached is a list of my user.xml files. Should it be safe to delete them all? I am concerned that I have more than you listed and I do not even want to move all of them in case I break something so far down the line that I may not realise that something is broken and why.

According to your list, I only need to delete/move one file.

I would be grateful for your confirmation.

Hi Terry,

I have heard, from more than one source, that if one has a user-modified file, it will stop the file being overwritten by a future Log4OM install. The same sources said that one would have to remove the user-modified file to allow the correct install of a future file in a Log4OM install.

I am now stuck between two mods, one who says to delete/backup the user files (as I have heard before) and one who says to leave them as they are.

I wonder if somebody has an authoritative casting vote (LOL)?

Log4OM will ALWAYS overwrite his own files when updating, but keeps your _user files and give priority to file named "_user"
Some files are "by default" personalized to user needs (like datatable layouts) and those files should be kept as they holds your personalizations.

In your list only the bandplan_r1_user.xml is really overriding our default one (bandplan_r1.xml).

In this case we have also:
bandplan_dxcc221
bandplan_dxcc223
bandplan_dxcc230

and those files have priority over the R1/R2/R3 files.
That means if you live in DXCC 221, 223 or 230 your bandplan_r1_user.xml will not be considered as those have priority.
To keep priority of your file, assuming your DXCC is 221, you should override file bandplan_dxcc221.xml with bandplan_dxcc221_user.xml

Deleting user file (or moving away on another folder, or renaming it) will let Log4OM load the default updated bandplan

The files you list here are your personal configuration files if you delete them you will have to set your windows and filters up again, the only bandplan change does not apply to the UK

Up to you!
