Com Ports

Post by KD0ZV »

I guess I have got lazy over the last few years having a Flex because virtual ports is just part of owning a Flex.

However, I am trying to help a couple guys setup Log4OM and they do not have that luxury. Wanting to run WSJT and Log4OM,etc.

I am assuming that everyone is using some sort of virtual port software. A lot of that comes at a pretty steep cost.

So what is everyone using on traditional rig?

I noticed WSJT had omnirig but have not been able to make it work yet on the FT101D I was messing with.

I was able to get it running using OmniRig in WSJT but without that Terry I do not see how I could have done it without virtual port software. Looking at the manual I do not see how Log4OM could have provided frequency and keying for WSJT-X.

Looks like WSJT-X still needs to connect to the radio somehow.

Appears to me that the integration to Log4om was just to scan the database and log the contact worked in WSJT with the nice addition to see who you were working before logging them.

Am I wrong?

In WSJT just select OMNIRIG - Not the radio

Just checked its on page 152 of user guide

OK, then we are on the same page. As I said, originally I could not get OmniRig to work. But have that functioning now. So without that it would have required VSP.

Rich,

Omnirig is a miltithreaded app which allows multiple programs to connect to it for rig control, essentially allowing all those programs to share the same Com port for CAT control. Each program connected to Omnirig must be written to utilize the Omnirig engine, of course. In my view, this is one of the main advantages to Omnirig, allowing multiple programs to run, all with CAT.

Yep, but as I said we could not get OmniRig to work with this Yaesu 101 at first.

So was looking for other options.

Not to mention when it comes to Log4OM not all of us run OmniRig :)

All good now. He is all fixed up!

Thanks
