VSP Splitter, optimal settings ? (Eterlogic VSPE)

Post by M7MLB »

So i wanted to use HRD (Version 5) for rig control, alongside WSJT-X, and of course Log4OM. Seeing as HRD cant use Omnirig and you cant use more than one connection to a Com port. I read forums and setup VSPE with a Splitter.

Set my real physical port Com12 to be a splitter with virtual port as Com3. Setup HRD to use Com3, configured WSJT-X to use HRD as cat control. And then setup Log4OM to use Omnirig on Com3 also.

So it does work, certainly HRD and WSJT-X seem happy.

Log4OM however is working, but it is "glitching" for want of a better term. The CAT frequency display every 2-3 seconds flickers and changes to random frequencies and then it flicks back to correct frequency. This cycle continues at random 2-3 second intervals and with random frequencies. I have experimented with all different baud rates and settings, it improves and glitches less at a slower baud rate of 4800, and more at 38400, It also improved if the polling interval in Omnirig is set at its lowest of 100ms. But none of these have completely removed the issue. So it clearly must be related to speed virtual port works, and/or polls the data.

I also tried running Log4OM alone (ie without HRD or WSJT-X running) but still using the virtual com port. No issues at all, so it clearly only happens when more than one piece of software is polling the virtual com port.

So its not really a support issue, which is why i posted here in general, But if anyone has some advice of optimal settings settings for baud rates and have ahd any experience using Eterlogic VSPE i would appreciate some tips..

What radio

What interface cable to PC

What connection is WSJT using

What Windows OS

You say WSJT is Using HRD as cat control - How?

Also its not advisable to use com 3 as a VSP if you can help it because quiet often Windows will select that for other functions

Terry, I didn't post all of that info (ok, radio i should of yes) as like i said i was just looking for optimal settings others may have used, ie baud rates etc. I didn't want to start a full support post as like i stated it is working fine, just this tiny little glitch to do with polling speed. But as you've asked now:

Ft-897
FTDI USB CAT Cable
WSJT is connected via HRD 5 as explained
Windows 10 Pro
And yes im aware of Com3 not being ideal, but as post stated i am just experimenting right now, and Com3 is not in use.

Do you mean there is a WSJT UDP connection to HRD or that there is some other type of connection to HRD on wsjt?

Sorry if i wasn't clear, Talking CAT control not UDP.
So HRD rig control is controlling WSJT-X for CAT commands.
