Fonts Resolution

Post by KM6LIO »

Is there a way to make the fonts bigger in the logbook and the cluster sections ? By the time I get a high enough resolution to get everything to fit on the screen the fonts are so small my old eyes have to strain to read the text .

Win 7
23" wide screen
1920 x 1080 - wish I could reduce so things would be more pleasant to read

How are you arranging Log4om on your screen, perhaps post us a screenshot here!

I sent you an email asking for your name and call sign last evening but have not had a reply?

I find Log4OM really a great log sw which allowed me a painless transition from HRD.
Indeed, since long time, I don't use it anymore. (HRD)

I found very few problems, but relatively to the printing of the log, I find really hard to read the very tiny characters used for this feature. (to read a print in a4 format peoples must have eagle-eyes!!!) I tried to find a way to change the size, without success. (I hope to be not too shortsighted for the manual too, but a feature to choose a different character size don't seem to be present)

This makes the printing of the log absolutely useless , because I can't read it.

Currently I can only export the log and manipulate it with external programs
that allows me to choose the layout I want... not properly the best way.

I hope in the next releases this limit ( the readability of the prints) will be considered too ;-)

Hi Mario, unfortunately printing the "standard log form" used in Italy with all required informations is very problematic due to the amount of informations.
If you compile the log by pen you can easily abbreviate, compress and cut parts, but "automatically" this is not possible.

The solution could be creating a different log format, with less fields, or Printing QSO on two or more rows...

I'm open to suggestions :)

Hi Daniele!
Hi Mario, unfortunately printing the "standard log form" used in Italy with all required informations is very problematic due to the amount of informations.
I Agree Daniele... ...but:

The only way I think practicable is to let the user free to compose your own report, depending on its needs, approximately as occurs for the labels composition.

This is already partially possible allowing the choice of fields (I think), But also reducing the number of fields in the report, the font size does not change.

Often, the real need to have a printed copy of the log is independent of the real need to have all the information contained, depending on its use.

Sometimes may be preferred only a brief summary... Only for example, I usually check my traffic QSL on a printed report, I know that the program provides many controls for doing the same thing on video, but this match my needs and, at least by my side, the circumstance that the content of some fields may be truncated, is'nt a big trouble...(This is only an example of many)

on the one hand, the requirement to create a personal layout can be a little bit difficult for some user (you can always start from a modifiable layout, presetting default parameters as you think best) , but on the other hand you can offer an extremely powerful tool.

Probably the same result can be obtained more easily adding a direct print function to the log4om postoffice, same as viewed on screen, in addition to the existing export to ADIF and CSV, for the selected records... considering the opportunity to print columns in excess in a following sheet, (like happen with excel or similar datasheet...) rather than reducing the font size trying to include all the information in one sheet only.

I now, is a crap....but at least you let the user free to choose how many fields can be contained in a single sheet, printing horizontal or vertical or how much paper he wants to throw away

Finally, split a qso on two rows seem less interesting (to me).

However, Daniele... I can easily survive the lack of this option...and are still in debt with you for two beer boxes for your very nice job... :D :D :D So please consider my post only a little "mental masturbation", and don't worry too much.

73, Mario

To the rest of the world: sorry for the abuse of the English language, I'm often reviled for this... I'm just a poor italian nurse and this is the best I can. I hope you can understand me anyway.

(But I promise you a masterpiece the day You will need an enema.   )

I was unaware that you could arrange log4om a different way than what is defaulted after install . How to do re-arrange log4om , maybe that would be a solution.

Don't worry Mario :) i will wait for you!

About your suggestions: yes, this will be definitely a software section that require a deep revision. I'm trying to dedicate my time adding new features and making older a little bit more confortable. On each release my target is to give something new to play with and fix previous issues, even redesigning completely some controls or features to make them more friendly...

Usually the biggest inspiration came when i took some time to play with my rig, as an operator.
I usually find tons of small defects that are invisible when you're designing an user interface, but came evident when you use the software.

keyboard shortcuts for adding/removing time in qso massive import was "invented" the day i have loaded a IOTA activation into the database...

All suggestions are welcome, as usual, and Printing on more than one sheet can be a solution... Another way is the CSV export that give you the full control of your informations and probably, one day, an RTF export... who knows :)
