Popup at boot of program.

Post by g4vwi »

I have recently received a popup prior to the bootup of Log4OM2.
I did not take too much notice of this but it appeared to emphasise the importance of backing up your files and stated that although the programme is not perfect it is well worth considering a donation towards the development of the program. NOT having taken too much notice of this I shut the programme down only to find that when booted up again a blank programme without database, personal data and UDP setting and more were gone.
I have no problem with making a donation but am very concerned that all my settings took over half an hour to reset. Has anyone else experienced this? Did this massage emanate from the Log4OM team and if so can you shed any light on this please.

Best wishes Derek G4VWI.

What did the 'Pop up' say?

Support is not reliant on donations and there is no need for you to donate it's up to you

Without information about the nature of the pop up menu it's very hard to advise the cause of your issue, did you not read the message?

This is the popup at bootup. The problem is that after closing the popup all UDP settings and links to other programs are cleared. The backup database is saved ok. However I still have to reload a saved settings file or put all the settings in again. This now happens every time I run the program!

OK Derek,

The message is from Log4OM and indicates that its starting as a new installation.

When you restart Log4OM it loads a config file which contains all of your setting's etc, if it cannot access that file you get the problem you are experiencing.

This can happen for several reasons the most usual are the either a Windows update has made the folder or config file 'Read only'

Alternatively that you have installed the program in an area that is protected by windows, e.g. put the user files in the Windows Program (X86) folder instead of a user folder at:

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Log4OM2

Your user config.json file should be stored at C:\...............\Roaming\Log4OM2\user

Only the actual program runs from the windows Programs (X86) folder!

Another reason can be that you are storing the files on One drive which is particularly security conscious or on a USB stick which has a fault or is particularly slow to read.

Of course it could be your anti virus software of firewall blocking the load

I hope this helps you resolve the issue if not please send me a support request
