CQ zone not correct on data lookup?

Post by VE7ATJ »

Hi... sorry if this is a newbie question, but i'm new to LOG4OM.
When I do a callsign lookup for US hams, it invariably comes back with CQ Zone 5, which is fine for the east coast, but not correct for west coast or mid-US.
Also, when I put in my QTH location info, it also came back with CQ Zone 5, but I'm in 3 on the west coast of Canada.
Have I not connected some db to properly update this? Or is there something wrong with the CQ zone lookup.

Don,

Have you set up Info Providers located at: Settings / Configuration / Info Providers ??

There are several options to choose from. I happen to use QRZ.com as my primary source as HamQTH as my secondary source. QRZ.com has a bit more consistent information, but you must have at least an XML Data membership to access that data. HamQTH is "free".

Then have you also set up the Info Providers Configuration at: Settings / Configuration / Info Providers / Configuration ??

Look on Page 52 of the "current" User Guide for the initial settings with respect to CTY and Clublog databases as well as the External Sources (QRZ, HamQTH, etc.)

Make sure you have closely followed the setup instructions for the Initial Setup for your "Station Information" Make sure you have selected the proper IARU Region and your Country Selection and also your proper CQ and ITU zones. See Page 16 of the "current" User Guide for this detail.

Getting those elements set up should resolve your CQ and ITU zone issues.

Thanks Nolan... I had QRZ as my primary and QRZCQ as my secondary. I've changed the secondary to HAMQTH.
I don't have an XML subscription with QRZ, but the lookup 'seemed' to be working -- getting name and location, etc. but just the wrong CQ zone info. Does the XML provide access to additional info?

I was also surprised that when putting in my qth info that it came back with the wrong cq zone, even tho my grid and location are for zone 3.

I'll check into the XML subscription with QRZ.
Thanks.
