Awards question.

Post by NT6X »

Hi guys,

Now that I have most of the logger working the way I want it i'm now spending some time looking at the awards tracking. Being in CA i'm starting with the WAJA award. WAJA is listed in the awards but when I run View>Awards statistics for WAJA there are no stats. Does Log4OM automatically track this award or do I have to Edit each JA QSO and add WAJA under the Award Refs tab? I did this for a couple JA QSO's and the stats showed up for the award, but it's time consuming to edit every JA contact to add the award. I was hoping Log4OM tracked this for me whenever I logged a JA QSO.

Did I miss something in the set-up menu?

Hi Michael,
This is a tricky one to answer!

Problem is that the Japanese stations dont generally enter their 'Prefectures' in the 'State' field of QRZ etc, its occasionally part of the 'QTH' field, so we cannot rely on the normal lookup procedures.

If you migrated from Log4OM V1 to V2 and assuming that you had the WAJA award references recorded in V1 then they should have been detected from the incoming ADIF version 3>>>> file, I guess this was not the case?

Some operators recorded various award references like prefectures or SOTA refs in the comments field of their old logger and when Log4OM scans a log for award references it parses any reference detected in the comments field and adds it to the awards.

Perhaps the forgoing helps you understand the problem but its probably not a lot of help in resolving it!

Let me know where your old QSO's originated and if there are any 'Prefectures' listed in any of the fields of those QSO's and I will try to provide a work around for you.

BTW it might be nice if you added your name to the signature of your posts to save us checking QRZ for your name.

Hello Terry,

Thanks for the response. My log database of over 38k QSO's was originally logged in N1MM, then imported to HRD, and finally imported to Log4OM when I made the switch. It doesn't look like HRD recorded the JA prefectures.

Moving forward is there anything I can do in the Award Manager so it tracks WAJA or shall I continue to manually add it to each QSO? One of the awards I was going to suggest adding was the JA JCC award which tracks JA cities. It should be easy enough to pull that data from QRZ when logged.

Thanks for your comments

I just started looking into the JCC Award but mapping the city to a JCC Reference doesn't look simple;
in the information downloaded from QRZ.com the city name is often meshed with other information, or in different positions, or spelled as for example "Kawasaki-city".
I guess an automatic lookup is hardly going to work.

So I started associating every single qso/callsign with a JCC reference manually, but that would take forever.

Did anyone collect a simple table mapping Japanese callsigns to JCC references ?
